Electronic CDI ignition system from SIP PERFORMANCE for PIAGGIO Ciao, Si, Bravo, and Boxer—complete with Flywheel, Stator Plate, and CDI unit.

 

The electronic CDI ignition system from SIP PERFORMANCE is a high-performance complete ignition system for PIAGGIO moped and scooter models equipped with factory electronic ignition. The kit provides reliable, maintenance-free Ignition with a consistently strong spark across the entire RPM range.

Unlike contact-controlled Ignition Systems, the CDI Ignition operates wear-free and ensures a precise ignition timing at all times. The result is better starting performance, smoother engine operation, and reliable ignition performance even at higher RPMs. Misfires and ignition interruptions are reduced, while operational reliability is increased.

Easy installation with cable lengths close to the original

The cable lengths match those of the original PIAGGIO ELO Ignition systems and allow for straightforward installation without any modifications to the Wiring Loom. The Ignition system is compatible with all crankcases that come standard with electronic ignition.

 

It is also compatible with the POLINI Speed Engine and POLINI Evolution Engine (electronic Ignition versions), the MALOSSI MP One, the PINASCO Power Casing, and all PIAGGIO ELO engines.

6 V/12 V system, as with PIAGGIO ELO

As with the original PIAGGIO ELO Ignition system, this system also combines two voltage ranges. The main lighting is powered by 6 V, while a separate 12-V supply is available for the turn signals. This solution is also found on various Vespa models and ensures more reliable operation of the Indicator Relay, especially at low engine speeds.

Voltage Regulator and Light Bulbs

No additional Voltage Regulator is required during normal operation. The system is self-regulating via the connected loads and corresponds to the original PIAGGIO design. This requires the use of the specified bulbs:

  • Headlight 6 V / 15 W
  • Rear Light 6 V / 4 W

However, on heavily modified engines with significantly higher RPMs, the alternator may generate higher voltages. In such cases, a suitable Voltage Regulator is recommended to protect the bulbs and electrical components.

Operation with 12-V bulbs

In general, the Lighting Coils generate power, while the actual voltage depends on the electrical load and engine RPM. Therefore, 12-V bulbs can also be used. Depending on the combination of headlight and Rear Light, the light output can be optimized. At high RPMs, however, the risk of overvoltage increases, which is why a Voltage Regulator is recommended, especially for high-performance tuned engines.

Additional Loads and Professional Modifications

A Brake Light can also be connected via the brown wire. The original PIAGGIO system uses a resistance connected in parallel to limit voltage spikes.

 

Experienced tuners can connect the Lighting Coils on the Base Plate in series, thereby significantly increasing the available light output. In this configuration, operation with a Voltage Regulator is absolutely necessary. This is particularly useful for vehicles with increased power demands, such as those equipped with high-output headlights, electric Water Pumps, auxiliary lighting, or other electrical loads.
