Product description

Variator weights are a key factor in tuning scooter Variomatics and have a significant impact on starting RPM, shifting behavior, and acceleration. High-quality rollers from POLINI and MALOSSI ensure precise tuning and consistent performance.

Variator weights play a crucial “role” in tuning a scooter’s Variomatic.

As a general rule: The lighter the roller sets are, the higher the RPM required to push the rollers outward via centrifugal force and thus trigger the “shifting process.” Heavy rollers, on the other hand, require less RPM to set the mechanism in motion. This means that with light rollers, the scooter only starts moving at a higher initial RPM, whereas with heavy rollers, it begins moving even at a lower RPM.

The preferred starting RPM varies from person to person. Of course, which weights work best also depends on the degree of tuning, the rider’s weight, and other factors. Given the many low-quality products on the market, we particularly recommend the Variorollen from the renowned manufacturers POLINI and MALOSSI, which are both high-quality and attractively priced.

As a general rule:

Engine type: MINARELLI 15x12, MORINI 17x12, KYMCO / PEUGEOT / HONDA / PIAGGIO / GILERA up to 1998 16x13, PIAGGIO / GILERA from 1998 onward 19x15.5

Sport Variators: POLINI / MALOSSI 16x13, HEBO 17x12, TOP PERFORMANCE 15x12

SIP TIP:

  • By adjusting the Variator Rollers, every scooter can be fine-tuned very specifically to its engine output and intended use. However, keep in mind: The more aggressively the engine is tuned, the more sensitively the scooter reacts to differences in roller weight. Therefore, you should avoid using rollers with weights that differ too greatly. Precise variator tuning always pays off, ensuring that the engine doesn’t waste power unnecessarily at high RPMs or lose low-end torque due to shifting too early.
