HPI Minitronik Ignition – an extremely lightweight racing ignition system with a CNC-machined aluminum fan, light output, and a choice of fixed or freely programmable ignition curves.
With the Minitronik Ignition, HPI offers a true lightweight. Although it resembles IDM-based ignitions—such as PINASCO, MALOSSI, etc.—it differs significantly in its dimensions. The rotor has an outer diameter of just 71.5 mm. Including the CNC-machined aluminum fan, it weighs only 650 g. This means that not only is the entire Flywheel very light, but its low mass is also concentrated within a small radius. This ensures high performance potential, since the engine has very little mass to set in motion. However, such a lightweight Ignition system is also very rough to ride.
In everyday use, the low weight causes more stress than it brings driving pleasure. This Ignition system is truly designed for racing. That’s where it reaches its full potential. On the racetrack, the engine is constantly pushed to its limits. It combines low weight with high light output and reliable cooling. The alternator delivers 60 watts. This is sufficient, for example, for a Headlight Unit during night races or for powering auxiliary units.
We offer the Ignition system in two versions:
“Fixed”: With two preset ignition timing curves. You can switch between them using a Plug or an optional Switch. Both curves adjust by 25 degrees, or 2.5 degrees per 1,000 RPM. The curves differ in the starting RPM at which the timing is adjusted toward late.
“Free”: Fully programmable, with two switchable ignition curves. This requires the Interface and software (Part No. 50007300). This allows curves to be programmed specifically for the respective Engine. The Ignition system also allows you to store two curves. These can even be switched while driving. With this Ignition system, the switch for the curves is already included.
The HPI Ignition does not have a groove for the Woodruff Key. Installation is still not difficult. Clear instructions in English are included. The plug connections are of very high quality.
A 27 x 1 mm left-hand threaded Puller Tool is required for disassembly (Part No. BU5250).
