The Vespa 125 GTR was produced in the late 1960s and early 1970s and is particularly popular with collectors and lovers of classic scooters. Typical of Vespa scooters, the 125 GTR has an elegant and timeless design. It is characterised by its round shape and smooth lines, which have made Vespas an iconic symbol in the two-wheeler sector. The frame of the Vespa GTR is similar to that of the 150 Sprint Veloce and the Rally 200, with the main difference to the GT being the now larger, round Headlight Unit (diameter 130 mm). In contrast to the Sprint Veloce and the Rally, the frame of the GTR is characterised by horizontal aluminium Decorative Trims on the Side Parts and an aluminium Mudguard Fin.
The frame number of the Vespa 125 GTR is stamped on the edge of the frame below the left-hand side cheek, making it easy to identify and check. The characteristic Vespa design is evident in the Badges and Emblems: The Legshield is emblazoned with the Badge "Vespa GT" with the "R" placed underneath, a symbol for the model designation. In addition, the Piaggio hexagonal emblem can be found above the Horn Cover and prominently on the Handlebar above the speedometer. Another characteristic feature is the speedometer design. In contrast to the GT's clamshell speedometer, which goes up to 110 km/h, this model has a speedometer that measures up to 120 km/h. This speedometer is characterised by a black Face Plate, similar to the one used in the Sprint Veloce and the Rally 200.
The Vespa GTR, where the "R" stands for "rinnovato" (renewed), follows the Vespa GT as a model in the 125 series. Both the Frame and the Engine of this Model retain the GT prefix. The 4-speed Engine initially corresponds to that of the GT, although a change from 2 to 3 transfer ports (around serial number VNL2T *138957) was made around 1975. As an Italian-made model that was also exported to Sweden, France and Switzerland, the GTR could be ridden in Italy from the age of 16. Compared to earlier 125cc models, the large Headlight Unit (diameter 130 mm) with a chrome trim ring stands out on the GTR. The Handlebar features the hexagonal blue Piaggio Emblem in the centre. The "Gran Turismo" lettering is attached to the rear of the scooter. The Badges were modernised on the later models of the Vespa: "vespa" is written on the front of the Legshield, while "125 g.t.r." can be read at the rear, giving the Vespa a contemporary and elegant appearance.
The user manual covers the Vespa 125 GTR and the Sprint Veloce together, which is practical due to their great similarity. One notable detail is the green Control Light located above the Piaggio hexagon on the Handlebar. This arrangement reflects the careful design and functionality that characterise both models.
