Overview
The IMPULSE mid-motor, introduced in 2011, was far ahead of its time and enabled Derby Cycle to maintain its market leadership for many years. However, with the rapid change and development of the market in 2019, Derby Cycle announced that it would cease production of the IMPULSE engines. Nevertheless, there are still hundreds of thousands of IMPULSE drives on German and European roads, which encourages tuning manufacturers to continue producing new modules.
The Engines
The IMPULSE mid-motor 1.0, which came onto the market in 2011, was a real innovation thanks to its coaster brake and caused quite a stir. the improved version 2.0 was then introduced in 2014 and other models followed. This drive was used in e-bikes from the renowned Derby Cycle brand, including Raleigh, Kalkhoff, Gazelle and others. The IMPULSE EVO was even more powerful and could even support S-pedelecs with speeds of up to 45 km/h, which also applied to the IMPULSE EVO RS. The latest and last model, the IMPULSE EVO NEXT, was introduced in 2017.
