Overview DUCATI

The DUCATI company was founded in 1926 by Antonio Ducati in Bologna and originally focussed on the production of radio components. After the Second World War, specifically in 1946, DUCATI, now under state administration, began manufacturing auxiliary bicycle engines and soon developed complete vehicles. in 1953, the company was split into DUCATI Elettronica and DUCATI Meccanica, with the latter covering the motorbike sector. The chief designer Fabio Taglioni joined the company in 1954.

In the 1980s, DUCATI struggled with financial difficulties and from 1983 co-operated with the motorbike manufacturer Cagiva, which took over DUCATI completely in 1985. In 1996, Cagiva sold a large part of its shares to the Texas Pacific Group, which in turn sold its shares to Investindustrial in 2005. Despite the changes in company management, the production facility always remained in Bologna. A co-operation with Mercedes-AMG began in 2011, and in 2012 Audi took over all shares in DUCATI via its subsidiary Lamborghini, with plans to integrate it into the Audi and Volkswagen Group.

DUCATI has experienced increasing sales in recent years, with a record of over 61,500 motorbikes sold in 2022, with more than a tenth of sales in Germany.

DUCATI model history

DUCATI has never manufactured and launched a scooter itself. Only in cooperation with the manufacturer Super Soco have some models been launched as DUCATI editions. DUCATI has also been producing E-Scooters and mountain bikes for several years.
