Improved power delivery

Standard Variators are designed for low-cost mass production, so it is obvious that there is still potential for improvement. With sports variators, the available power can be better transmitted to the rear wheel, resulting in improved acceleration and often higher top speeds. PRODIGY has put a lot of time and effort into its Variator Kit, the result is a Vario that delivers the perfect balance between acceleration and top speed. A particular advantage of the vario is that it does not jerk when accelerating, but rather works smoothly and evenly without any loss of power.

Perfectly tuned for Modern Vespa

The area of application of conventional sports variators usually relates to the respective engine type, which is of course not only used in the Vespa, but also in other PIAGGIO vehicles. However, due to its own weight, the Vespa actually requires special attention. PRODIGY has focused on the modern Vespa and has developed and tuned its Vario specifically for the 300cc. The hardness of the Contrast Spring, the choice of Vario rollers and the angle of the Vario and V-Belt Pulley raceways are therefore ideal for Vespa GTS/GTS Super/GTV . The angle between the Vario and V-Belt Pulley has been changed slightly so that the belt runs slightly lower than with the standard drive. This should result in improved acceleration, but the standard belt can still be used. Prodigy recommends the insert of the 18gr. Pulleys for tuned Engines or adapted setups, for Engines with 300cc and without further modifications to the performance, the 17gr. Rollers should be used.

Balanced performance

PRODIGY's primary requirement for their Variomatic was that it had to be particularly suitable for city traffic with stop & go etc. and therefore the focus was on reasonable acceleration. However, the modified angles of the belt track and the well-tuned Vario weights not only achieve better acceleration values, but also a slightly higher top speed. All in all, the performance of this Vario, especially in conjunction with the PRODIGY Clutch, is very balanced and pleasant to ride.

Conclusion: A superbly tuned Vario for improved acceleration and slightly higher top speed. The pleasant acceleration and the comparatively low noise level of the Vario convinced us.
