Competition Variomatic from J.COSTA for 4-stroke maxi scooters with an innovative system of linear sliding weights for better acceleration and a longer final drive ratio.
The newly designed Competition Variomatic from the Spanish custom manufacturer J.COSTA was an immediate hit. It is available for many 4-stroke maxi scooters and differs significantly from conventional variators. The Variator itself is made of CNC-milled aluminum, and the rest of the scope of delivery also has a high-quality finish. Instead of classic variator rollers, 14 sliding weights are inserted here, which move the variator in linear tracks. This system is technically simple, but at the same time extremely effective. Compared to a standard variator, the J.COSTA offers a shorter ratio in the lower speed range for better acceleration and, with the V-Belt Pulley fully closed, a longer ratio for more top speed.

Conclusion: The new J.COSTA Variomatic with its revolutionary design is a real enrichment for the maxi scooter market. Installation is straightforward, and 15 km/h more top speed, better response, stronger acceleration, less vibration and reduced noise are clear arguments in favor of this Variator.

"The J.COSTA Variomatic, the installation of which we described in detail in the last issue, has proven itself. The GTS 300 starts up better and even runs faster. No other tuning variator has ever achieved this. The measured values: top speed now 122.4 km/h instead of 120.1 km/h, 0-100 km/h in 13.1 s instead of 14.0 s. Most impressive, however, is the uphill rating: the Vespa gained two seconds and flew up our test track in 47.5 s."
