Improved power delivery

Standard variators are designed for low-cost mass production, so it is obvious that there is still potential for improvement. With sport variators, the available power can be better transferred to the rear wheel, improved acceleration and often also higher top speed are the result. PRODIGY has put a lot of time and effort into their variator kit, the result is a vario that delivers the perfect balance between acceleration and top speed. A particular advantage of the Vario is that it does not jerk when accelerating, but rather works smoothly and evenly without losing power.

Perfectly tuned for Modern Vespa

The range of application of conventional sport variators usually refers to the respective engine type, which is of course not only used in the Vespa, but also in other PIAGGIO vehicles. However, due to its own weight, the Vespa actually requires special attention. PRODIGY has focused on the Modern Vespa and developed and tuned its Vario specifically for the 125cc. The hardness of the counterpressure spring, the choice of vario rollers and the angle of the vario and pulley tracks are optimally suited to the Vespa Primavera/Sprint. The angle between the vario and the pulley has been changed slightly, so that the belt runs slightly lower than on the standard drive. The result should offer improved acceleration, but the standard belt can still be used. Prodigy recommends the use of the 13gr. pulleys for tuned engines or adapted setups, for engines with 125cc and without further modifications to the performance, the 12gr. pulleys should be used. Rollers should be used.

Balanced performance

PRODIGY's primary requirement for their variator was that it had to be especially suitable for city traffic with stop & go etc. and therefore the focus was on reasonable acceleration. However, the modified angles of the belt track and the well-tuned Vario weights not only achieve better acceleration values, but also a slightly increased top speed. All in all, the performance of this Vario, especially in combination with the PRODIGY clutch, is very balanced and pleasant to ride.

Conclusion: Greatly tuned Vario for improved acceleration and slightly higher top speed. The pleasant acceleration and the comparatively low noise level of the Vario convinced us.
