The HPI Universal Ignition is a true lightweight—featuring a 320-gram Flywheel, 60 watts of light output, and two preset ignition curves.
With the Universal Ignition, HPI offers a true lightweight. The flywheel weighs only 320 g and has an outer diameter of 71.5 mm. This ensures high performance potential, since the engine has very little mass to set in motion. However, such a lightweight Ignition system also makes for a very direct and aggressive driving experience.
The alternator delivers 60 watts of power, providing sufficient voltage for the Headlight Unit and battery charging.
The ignition system has two preset ignition timing curves. These can be switched between using a Plug or an optional Switch. Both curves adjust by 25 degrees and by 2.5 degrees per 1,000 rpm. The curves differ in the starting RPM for the adjustment toward a later timing.
The HPI Ignition system does not include a groove for the Woodruff Key. Installation is still not difficult. Clear instructions in English are included. The plug connections are of very high quality.
Note: The Ignition system works only to a limited extent with electric starters. After conversion, the Kickstart Lever should primarily be used for starting the engine.
Conclusion: The HPI Universal Ignition is the ideal Ignition system for street and racing use, offering excellent value for the price.
