Gear components from BENELLI—high-quality Gear Cogs and transmission parts from a small Italian manufacturer with a long tradition in motorsports.
Since the 1980s, Stefano BENELLI has been passionate about all kinds of gasoline-powered vehicles, whether two- or four-wheeled. This passion was particularly strong for 2-stroke engines and, of course, for the Vespa. He gained his first tuning experience here, and his designs were already being raced in the earliest Italian drag races. Soon, the original design of the Vespa transmission was overwhelmed by the increased power.
Even back when only a short 4th gear was available in Germany for Vespa small-frame models, the Italian racing elite was already using transmission components from Stefano BENELLI. In recent years, more and more transmission manufacturers have entered the market. Outside of Italy, however, BENELLI’s products were hard to come by and known only to a small circle of people.
Yet his products have a very good reputation. In material tests conducted in Germany, his Gear Cogs ranked among the best. Today, BENELLI is a small manufacturer that produces mechanical components for a wide variety of applications using the finest materials. These components are successfully used in motocross, circuit, and drag racing.
With Vespa Smallframe models, just as with the PX models, a problem may arise where the resonance RPM is no longer reached in 3rd and/or 4th gear because the gap between the gears is too large. BENELLI’s input shafts offer a wide range of options: from a long 4th gear for long-distance rides with heavy loads to a short 4th gear for sprint or circuit racing.
BENELLI Input Shafts have proven themselves time and again and demonstrated their reliability. They also offer good value for the money. The countershafts for Vespa small-frame models are available in various ratios, depending on how closely spaced the individual gears should be.
The GPR/Bull transmissions from BENELLI offer a particular advantage: the Gear Cogs feature a larger tooth module. This allows the individual teeth to be designed for greater stability. These Gear Cogs are designed to function particularly reliably, especially in high-torque engines. However, the individual transmission components cannot be combined with other gear wheels or intermediate shafts, but they can be used with any standard main shaft.
The 6-arm Bull variant features a 6-arm Gear Selector, along with the corresponding Driveshaft and matching Gear Cogs.
The GPR and Bull differ in their scope of delivery. The GPR includes the countershaft with kickstarter pinion and the four gear wheels. The Bull additionally includes the main shaft, Gear Selector, Spacer discs, Spring, and Balls, and is delivered pre-assembled and spaced.
Gear ratios:
- Input Shaft: 17-15-13-12
- Gear teeth: 1st gear Z 55, 2nd gear Z 42, 3rd gear Z 38, 4th gear Z 37
Conclusion: This transmission is ideal for the racetrack. But touring riders also benefit from the optimized gear ratios and robust construction.
These products are a perfect fit – SIP TIPS:
- First, adjust the entire transmission to your intended use and the Engine’s optimal RPM range using the primary gear ratio.
