Overview

The large Japanese conglomerate PANASONIC entered the e-bike market back in 1996 and was way ahead of its time. However, the pedelecs with a 26-volt drive were not very popular. It was not until 2012 that PANASONIC succeeded in returning to the now revitalised market with a 36-volt Engine. PANASONIC was able to impress with the X series and presented an innovation in 2016: the X drive had the so-called "Multi Speed Assist System", an internal 2-speed gearbox for more efficient power transmission. This system was also available for S-Pedelecs with 45 km/h. The G drives have been commercially available since 2020.

The Engines

PANASONIC's Engines can be easily categorised into three groups. The old 26/36 volt series was followed by the X series. The G drives have been on the market since 2020, some of which are also available for S-pedelecs.
