Conversion kits: Brake for Vespa, Lambretta, Scooter and Maxiscooter - at SIP Scootershop
Whoever brakes better, wins! The conversion kits for brakes are mainly used on classic Vespa and Lambretta scooters. These are only equipped with drum brakes as standard, which often reach their limits both when riding in the rain, on longer tours or when operating with two people. An update of the brake makes sense here in any case. And the ultimate solution in the Vespa sector is to upgrade to a GRIMECA disc brake. If this is then converted to a radial brake calliper, the best possible braking result is achieved. In the modern Vespa and scooter scene, conversions to oversize brake discs are popular because they develop a brutal braking effect.
With any engine tuning, you should never forget to upgrade the chassis and brakes as well. If you want to accelerate faster, you also have to be able to brake better.
How do I find the right brake conversion kit for my scooter?
At the moment you are in the general section on brake conversion kits. However, you can narrow down your search by selecting the model above, for example "Modern Vespa" or "Lambretta", depending on the vehicle for which you are looking for a conversion kit. Then only those items are displayed that are exactly suitable for this. By selecting the filter, for example "Conversion steering columns", you can further refine the selection. If you remove the category filter, e.g. "Classic Vespa", the entire range for conversion steering columns is displayed the entire range of conversion kits is displayed. This is always helpful if you are not sure what kind of scooter you are travelling with.

The range of conversion kits for brakes at SIP Scootershop
Disc brake GRIMECA
A disc brake is a must for every tuned scooter. Unfortunately, the braking power of the original drum brakes is usually manageable. The dosage is also much better with a disc brake. The GRIMECA disc brake is the proven classic in original equipment quality among the disc brakes for the Vespa gear pulley models and GRIMECA manufactures these exclusively for SIP. It fits Plug & Play on Vespa PX/T5/Cosa and PK models. Fans of the old Vesps need a PK conversion steering column to fit it.
GRIMECA disc brake - spare parts
It doesn't always have to be a new disc brake. But you have to have one beforehand. Brake drums, axle seating, brake pads and all other GRIMECA disc brake spare parts can be found here. Most of them, of course, from the manufacturer itself, GRIMECA from Bologna, Italy.
GRIMECA disc brake - replacement parts
Many ways lead to a better braking performance of the GRIMECA disc brake: SIP LEGAL brake callipers made of aluminium, CNC manufactured and with ABE, SPORT or RACE brake discs with better cooling and brake pads in different materials. The brake grips better and the braking effect is stable even under high loads. Renowned manufacturers such as POLINI, MALOSSI or GALFER are active here.
Front & rear disc brake
Here you will find all disc brake suppliers who are not called GRIMECA: CRIMAZ manufactures front disc brakes, also for the old Vespa models. Premium disc brakes are popular with Lambretta riders. The anti-dive system here prevents too much compression. The rear Vespa disc brakes from SIP, MMW and CRIMAZ are a feast for the eyes on any custom scooter.
Conversion steering columns
The SIP PK conversion steering columns allow the fitting of a GRIMECA disc brake and a variety of PK shock absorbers on the Vespa models of the 60s and 70s. The ZIP SP conversion steering columns are also popular in the racing series. The SERIE PRO 12" conversion steering column is the basis for the SIP Customs Basterd 12" conversion.
Oversize brake disc conversion
Larger brake disc diameters lead to better braking results. Matching adaptors make it possible to fit them to Modern Vespa, Scooter and Maxiscooter.
Conversion to radial brake callipers
Radial brake callipers achieve significantly better braking results than the usual axial brake callipers. No wonder, then, that people now like to convert to radial brakes not only in racing, but also on the road. Products from OTTOPUNTOUNO, AF PARTS and SIP PERFORMANCE are at the forefront here.

Customers ask - SIP answers
"What all parts do I need to convert my brakes?"
Depending on the model. The parts required vary and are noted in each case with the article.
GRIMECA disc brake requires a conversion fork. For Vespa 50-125/PV/ET3, VBB and Sprint/Rally models, don't forget new steering head bearings. On PX models it fits Plug & Play.
Radial brake calliper conversions require an already mounted disc brake and replace the original brake calliper. An adaptor is usually required.
Full hydraulic conversions upgrade semi-hydraulic disc brakes. Lines, brake fluid and a pressure sensor on the handlebars are necessary here.
If you are converting to oversize brake discs, you will need the appropriate adaptor. This is money well spent for maxi scooters and modern Vespa riders.

Legal or not legal - that is the question here
We have marked many brake parts "For racing purposes only", as this is a modification of the chassis. An optimisation of the brake system that leads to better braking performance is certainly welcomed by all test centres.
If you want to use your brake conversion legally in road traffic, you should always consult a TÜV office. Many items, such as brake discs and brake pads as well as brake callipers, have a KBA number and can therefore be legally used in German road traffic. There used to be a parts certificate for the GRIMECA disc brakes, which is now only available as a copy. However, these disc brakes are also approved by most TÜV authorities on the basis of individual appraisals. If in doubt, clarify conversions to oversize or radial brake pumps. In any case, we recommend that you have the brakes fitted by qualified personnel if you do not feel able to do it yourself.
