In this episode of our "Sexiest Vespa Workshops" series, Jesco once again has the pleasure of travelling to our neighbours in Austria - to Ried im Innkreis to be precise. The small town not only has a special historic city centre and a beer museum, but is also home to an artist who has been a friend of ours for many years: Marcus "Pfeili" Pfeil.
When Vespas become works of art
His company "Pfeil Design" is known far beyond Upper Austria and has been embellishing cars, helmets, facades, racing cars, buses, Surfboards - and Vespas too - since 1992. SIP managing directors Alex and Ralf sought contact with Marcus many years ago and had the two custom scooters "PX Racer" and "PX Cutdown" optically spiced up. The collaboration continued over the years. The look of our "Glorious Basterd" was designed by Pfeili, as was our latest modern Vespa project "Tribute".
So a visit to "Pfeil Design" was really overdue. Jesco not only receives a warm welcome, but is also given a detailed look behind the scenes - and is personally guided through the workshops by the head designer. And all kinds of treasures are stored here or are currently being worked on. Whether Porsche, Audi, McLaren or Harley-Davidson - Pfeili never shies away from a job. He may have respect, but he is not afraid of big names.
Next generation: teamwork with a future
His sons Jonas and Lucas and his partner Marlene are now also an integral part of the company. However, there is no sign of generational conflict - on the contrary: the combination of father and sons brings together creative ideas, concentrated expertise and an impressive level of commitment.
Lucas manages the in-house labelling centre. Together with a competent team, he develops precisely coordinated concepts for logos and lettering - from the first sketch to the perfect design, thought through down to the smallest detail. The subsequent realisation is carried out with the highest level of craftsmanship and technical expertise. Jonas, on the other hand, is dedicated to Helmet design.
Inserting innovative techniques such as LED lighting, laser cutting, water jet technology, 3D effects, reflective materials, airbrushing and large-format digital printing, the team is constantly setting new standards in visual design.
When night falls in Ried im Innkreis
And when Jesco says goodbye towards the evening and has a lot of impressions to process, Pfeili really gets going: "I'm a workaholic in a positive sense. I have meetings, presentations and other appointments during the day. But I'm happiest alone in my workshop at night. That's when I switch on some music and get down to my real work: creative design."
We hope that Marcus, his passion and his designs will remain with us for many years to come.
