SIP Scootershop visits logistics professional Dachser

A while ago, Andi and Max from Purchasing/Import, and Otto as Head of Goods Receiving, drove from SIP Scootershop to Kaufbeuren to take a look behind the scenes at our forwarding partner Dachser "Air & Sea Logistics". SIP Scootershop has had a business relationship with the logistics company for 15 years, which has increased rapidly since 2016. Dachser handles the import of goods from the Far East for us, i.e. countries such as China, Thailand, Vietnam, Taiwan, India, Hong Kong, Singapore and the Philippines. In 2017, 125 shipments with 1,671 packages were delivered to SIP Scootershop. In 2021, there were 278 shipments and 28,844 packages.

Moritz Welter, responsible for Field Sales at Dachser, summarises the development: "We handled the first small deliveries for SIP Scootershop 15 years ago. Since then, the volume has increased significantly. Over the past few years, our cooperation has developed into a partnership that Dachser greatly appreciates. Our two companies have developed very strongly."

With Moritz Welter and Christian Jung, they first visited a pizzeria in the city, then they went to Dachser's halls and the SIP Scootershop employees were allowed to witness the unloading of a consolidated container from Taiwan live. Of course, there were also some packages for SIP Scootershop.

Global problems and solutions

119 employees work at the Kaufbeuren location and in 2021 they were responsible for 15,000 air freight and 12,500 sea freight shipments. 80 million euros in turnover were generated in Kaufbeuren alone. Two to three consolidated containers are unloaded daily and packed onto pallets for onward transport to customers. And it is precisely these containers that have undergone a price development in recent years that has caused a furore on the world markets. Whereas such a container could be bought for 2,000 US dollars five years ago, today it costs 12,000 US dollars. "The congestion in the Suez Canal, the Corona Lockdown and the strikes in the seaports have presented us with major challenges and as a result the costs have risen enormously," explains Moritz Welter. The war in Ukraine also poses considerable problems for his company, for example due to the ban on overflights from Russia. But he is sure that the situation will calm down, "however, no one can say for sure when that time will come."

SIP Scootershop also had to experience the problems first hand when the cargo ship "Ever Given" got stuck in the Suez Canal and important deliveries were not available. The freight forwarding business is highly subject to global trials and tribulations, but working with Dachser means a lot to Andi from SIP Scootershop: "In Dachser, we have a very reliable partner with whom we have overcome all difficulties over the past few years. The cooperation will continue to be trusting and successful in the future."
