Rim SIP PORDOI with updated ABE
Unclear wording in the first edition of the ABE for our SIP PORDOI rims has led to an increased number of queries regarding the tyre combinations that can legally be used. For this reason, together with our technical service, we have applied to the Federal Motor Transport Authority for an amendment to the ABE with the aim of listing a more detailed specification of the possible tyre sizes front/rear. The KBA has approved the application. The updated ABE documents now show the following registration-free tyre combinations for SIP PORDOI rims.

Which tyre model may I use?
When using a 140 Tyre on the SIP PORDOI rims, a tyre approval from the tyre manufacturer must be presented according to the expert opinion. Alternatively, the technical service can also issue this approval following installation and fitting tests. The corresponding tyre approvals for the 12-inch and 13-inch SIP Rim can be found in the ABEs in the Pendant. Only these specified tyre models may be fitted without registration. Tyres up to 130 mm wide do not require approval. All tyre models available on the market can be used here.

FAQS
Do I have to have the rims registered?
If you use a tyre size combination listed in the ABE in conjunction with a tyre listed in the tyre approval, no registration is required in Germany.
What else is required for fitting?
We recommend the matching Hub Nut Cover for the front. MV872300 for 13" and MV872200 for 12" rims. To fit the Rim at the rear, the Distance Bushing must be replaced with SIP part no. MV848039. Models with ABS on the rear wheel also require a suitable Mounting Kit for the Tone Wheel (e.g. item no. MV000617K or MV000617).
Do I need to do anything after fitting?
After fitting the rims on ABS models, the ABS/ASR system should be recalibrated. Detailed instructions are available in the download area or in the vehicle's user manual. We have detailed instructions here here.
Which tyres am I allowed to drive?
Only the tyre size combinations specified in the ABE are exempt from registration. Up to 130 Tyre, you are exempt from registration when selecting your tyre model. If you use a 140 Tyre, you must either provide proof of manufacturer approval or use the tyres specified in the SIP approval list.
Do the rims have to be registered in Austria/Switzerland despite the ABE?
Yes. An ABE (general operating permit) is issued by the German Federal Motor Transport Authority and is not valid in Austria/Switzerland.
Where can I get Tyres fitted to the rim?
Many motorbike and car workshops offer this service. SIP also offers a tyre fitting service. This can be booked when ordering!
After fitting the new rims with tyres, I have a wobble on my Handlebars. What is the reason for this?
New tyres on rims can be unbalanced during fitting. To eliminate the wobble, we recommend fine balancing by a tyre specialist.
Does the speedometerdisplay change with the 13" Rim?
Changing the tyre size also changes the gear ratio of the tyres, which ultimately leads to a deviation in the speedometer display. As the original speedometer deviates from the real value by up to 10%, the deviation is still within the tolerance for 12" rims with 140 Tyres and for 13" rims with max. 140 Tyres. This is actually an advantage, as the speedometer display comes closer to the real speed with the larger Tyres.
