The small factory is located in Forlì on the historic Via Emilia, between Bologna and Rimini, and has been manufacturing seats for classic scooters and motorcycles, as well as for modern two-wheelers, since 1953.

NISA – A turbulent history
In the post-war period, there was a veritable boom in mopeds, scooters and motorcycles in Italy. Among others, Ducati, Morini and Malaguti set up shop on the Via Emilia. Most of these companies had their seats manufactured externally, and one of these suppliers was ‘Nuova Industrie Selle Affini’, or NISA for short.
Giulietto Fabiani founded the company in 1953 and steered it steadily towards growth and success. A few years later, almost all Morini and Malaguti two-wheelers were leaving the factory with NISA seats. The company also established itself in the Replacement Parts market. Many motorcyclists would first buy a NISA Seat before deciding on a motorised vehicle.
In 1980, founder Giulietto suddenly found himself without his two partners and brought his son Enzo into the business. However, in the 1990s, manufacturers from Asia began to flood the European market. In its first year, Kymco sold 40,000 scooters, whilst Malaguti sold 400,000. NISA produced 1,000 seats a day. A few years later, the figures had reversed and Malaguti closed its doors.
Thirty years later, NISA finally found itself at a crossroads, as Enzo Fabiani passed away unexpectedly and his children, Enrico and Giulia – who worked in completely different industries – had to make a decision: Should they close the long-established company with its 40 employees, or give up their own careers and enter the Seat business? Well, today we know what their decision in 2010 was…
NISA – Successful in the 21st century
Currently, seven more employees work alongside the two siblings. More than half of their business consists of seats, which they supply as original equipment manufacturers for the Beta and Benelli brands. NISA moves with the times and has now also gained a foothold in the E-Scooter market. And the legendary Italjet Dragster was also recently unveiled with a Seat from NISA.
The second most important business area is the accessories market. NISA is constantly expanding its range and entering into partnerships with renowned brands such as PLC Corse and Tutto Lambretta. Today, NISA not only produces its own legendary Camel seat, but also, under licence, the famous Vespa Yankee seat from its former competitor Guiliari. Furthermore, the seats for the Vespa GTS are perennial bestsellers at NISA.
The smallest and most challenging market is that for custom seats, with their very specific requirements. However, NISA can draw on the extensive experience of its long-serving staff to ensure the company remains competitive in this sector as well.
