The tuning chip from VOLSpeed for e-bikes with BOSCH Performance Line CX drives of Generation 4 with Smart System (BES3).
The tuning chip is compatible with all BOSCH drive systems that use the Smart System (BES3) and whose motor support ends at 25 km/h. Excluded are e-bikes that are equipped with a rim magnet, as these are not supported by the tuning. The Smart System is most easily recognised by the Intuvia 100 or Kiox 300 display type, the LED Remote control unit or the system controller.

The tuning module for e-bikes with BOSCH engines (BES3).
The module can be conveniently controlled via the bike's existing control unit. By default, activation is carried out by entering the sequence "- + - +", but this can be adapted to individual preferences. A custom sequence of up to five arbitrary button presses can be set, using all available buttons, including left, right and menu.
It is also possible to individually set the speed limit between 25 and 45 km/h. The set limit is shown on the display. The set limit is shown on the display and saved automatically. The module also has a dynamic mode that enables a smoother reduction of engine power when the set maximum speed is exceeded. This achieves a more natural driving feel, which is well known for our modules.
Plug & Ride
After installation, the tuning automatically adapts to the e-bike without the need for calibration or other settings. The module is immediately ready for use.
Attention!
If the tuning module on the BOSCH Smart System is activated, the speed in the display will be shown incorrectly from about 21 km/h onwards. The displayed speed then remains in the range of 21 to 24 km/h until the set limit is reached. Unfortunately, it is currently not possible to display the speed correctly. If an accurate speed display is important to you, you will have to resort to an alternative such as an additional bike speedometer or a GPS app.
The Smart System
With the Smart System, BOSCH continues to use the designations of the old drive system components, even though they are no longer electrically compatible with the old system. For example, the "Performance Line CX" engine is available both as a Smart System (BES3) and as a non-Smart System (BES2). The designations of the displays were also taken over from the Smart System, but with an additional number at the end. The Kiox became the Kiox 300 and the Intuvia became the Intuvia 100.
To identify the Smart System, you can take a look at the display or the control unit. If the bike is equipped with the Kiox 300 or Intuvia 100 or the control unit LED-Remote, Mini-Remote or the System Controller is present, it is definitely the Smart System. The displays also differ visually.

E-bikes with rim magnet
Some bikes with the Smart System now no longer use a separate speed sensor. However, the VOLspeed tuning module essentially manipulates the signal from this sensor, which is why it will not work on such bikes. One indication that the bike does not have a speed sensor is a relatively large magnet attached to the valve of the rear wheel. The magnetic field is processed directly by a sensor in the drive motor, eliminating the need for an external sensor. It is not possible to convert to an external speed sensor, as this would require changing the configuration of the drive motor. This configuration change can only be made by the bike manufacturer and the dealer can only do this after the manufacturer's approval.
Assembly
A time expenditure of between 15 and 30 minutes should be expected. Depending on the bike, different tools are needed, but usually an ISIS crank puller and a TX20 Torx spanner. Cable connections only need to be plugged in, otherwise no modifications to the engine are necessary. The VOLspeed V4 tuning module is not visible after installation, it disappears completely under the cover of the engine.
Dismantling
Due to the plug-in connections, disassembly is basically just as easy as installation. There should be no visible damage to the e-bike or pedelec.
Conclusion: This tuning chip closes the gap for all users of the Smart System (BES3) from BOSCH.
