Freely programmable Ignition from VAPE. 16 curves can be selected and freely changed or programmed as required. The SIP Performance by VAPE Ignition can either be retrofitted with the freely programmable Ignition Unit or ordered as a freely programmable complete set.

General information on variable Ignitions.
The advantage of using an Ignition with variable ignition timing is that the ignition timing can be perfectly adapted to the respective engine speed. Depending on the engine speed range, a different ignition setting may be necessary for optimum combustion. This means that a static Ignition only works optimally in some speed ranges, but inefficiently or even poorly in others. Variable Ignitions provide a remedy. Depending on the requirements in the different speed ranges, the Ignition adjusts to optimize combustion. Since every tuned Engine works slightly differently, the Ignition should ideally be programmed individually. However, this is not easy, it requires a lot of "know how", skills and technical possibilities to check the correct function. Ignitions with pre-programmed curves are a common compromise solution. Different curves can be tested against each other and often a good approximation of the ideal ignition curve can be found. However, this solution is also only recommended for professionals, as there is a risk that the ignition timing in a certain range is far from optimum. This can result in engine damage.
The freely programmable Ignition by VAPE for the SIP Performance Ignition by VAPE combines all possibilities in one solution. It can be used statically, 16 pre-programmed curves can be selected and it is also possible to change and program the 16 curves yourself.
Parts required
The freely programmable SIP Performance by VAPE Ignition differs from the Road or Sport version in three components. Instead of the one-piece "Electronic Unit" (Ignition Coil with CDI), a separate ignition coil (item no. 51008700) and an ignition or control unit (item no. 51008610) are used. The Flywheel also differs from the Sport and Road Ignition. The keyway is offset by 149° to allow the adjustment range. For Vespa Largeframe or PK Engines with a 20mm Cone, the Flywheel item no. 51007160 can be fitted. For Lambretta DL/GP Crankshafts the Flywheel item no. 51002916. The Ignition can therefore be purchased ready assembled, but it is also possible to purchase the parts individually and retrofit an existing SIP Performance by VAPE.
How are the 16 curves selected?
The control unit has 4 dip switches on the top. These can be used to select the individual curves. An overview of the different curves can be found in the download area. We have also included a guide to selecting the right curves in the download area.
How can the curves be freely programmed?
The Ignition control unit can be connected to a computer via a USB Wire. The Wire is included with the control unit. The program for programming is included with the control unit. Detailed programming instructions can be found in the download area.
