DRT Gear Selector for Vespa Smallframe 4-speed - hardened special steel for precise gear changes on powerful Engines.
Gear Selectors from DRT are made from special steel, hardened and tempered. Thanks to precise processing, they are permanently highly resilient and therefore particularly suitable for powerful Engines. Variants in Ø51.0 mm and Ø50.2 mm are available for the 4-speed Smallframe; DRT does not differentiate between "round" and "square", but according to the required height.
- Hardened and tempered special steel for high continuous loads
- Precise processing for clean, defined Switches
- "PK STRETTA" variant with minimized radial play to prevent gear jumping
- Choice between Ø51.0 mm and Ø50.2 mm for 4-speed smallframe
As a high-end transmission component, the DRT Gear Selector is designed for set-ups where stability and shifting precision have priority. A special highlight from the Italian tuning scene is the "PK STRETTA" variant: DRT modifies it in such a way that the radial Game is reduced to almost zero. This reduces the gear jump caused by the shift claw and makes shifting much more precise. If the Gear Selector is removed by a few tenths on the inside at the ends of the arms, it can also be used on the main shaft of the PV/ET3. The correct height is decisive for the selection - not the distinction between "round" or "square".
Conclusion: A high-end gearbox component from DRT for high-performance motors with a focus on precision and stability.
SIP tip
- Mount the gears correctly and align them precisely, don't forget fresh Gearbox Oil; the assembly tool makes it much easier to fit theGear Selector, Spring and Ball.
Feedback
"The teeth for engaging the Ball are much sharper and more pronounced, which effectively prevents gear jumping. Together with a reinforced shift spring and a well-spaced gearbox, the few euros more compared to the PIAGGIO claw are really well invested. No more gear jumping!"
-SIP user "chup4"
"The less Game, the more perfect the gearbox. I have already adjusted it. Whether in the 2× Springrace, 1× Fallrace - I never had gear jumps, and we drove all the races without clutches."

Differences Between the 4-Speed Gear Selectors for Vespa Smallframe Models
For the 4-speed engines of the Vespa small-frame models, there are two different Gear Selectors that fit different transmissions or their Gear Cogs. The two types can generally be distinguished based on two characteristics.
- Shape of the transition to the upper end of the shift pawl: The later PK type has a rounded radius at this point, while the earlier V50/PV type is angular.
- Height of the Gear Selector: The PK type is 50.2 mm high, while the V50/PV type is 51 mm high.
Today, there are numerous manufacturers producing Gear Selectors for tuning and racing purposes. Unfortunately, some suppliers no longer adhere to these classic distinguishing features. DRT, for example, no longer manufactures the round Gear Selector as round, and CRIMAZ produces the 50.2-mm Gear Selector with a height of 48.8 mm.
Therefore, we have decided to specify either the round/50.2-mm or square/51-mm type for every 4-speed Gear Selector for Vespa Smallframe models.
