The French two-wheeler manufacturer MBK, formerly known as "Motobécane", can look back on a history of over 80 years in which the company has continuously produced motorbikes with an engine capacity of between 50 and 250 cc. Since its foundation in 1923 in Saint-Quentin, MBK has experienced a series of ups and downs. In its best year, 1974, the company was able to produce an impressive 750,000 mopeds. However, in 1983, MBK was hit hard by the negative effects of the oil crisis and the new mandatory helmet law, which caused the 50 cc market to plummet. During this difficult phase, MBK received the support of motorbike and scooter giant Yamaha, which recognised MBK's potential and acquired around 10% of the company's shares. This co-operation helped MBK to get back on its feet and enabled the company to establish itself as a proud European company. The collaboration intensified in 1986 when Yamaha made MBK a subsidiary in order to benefit from the French company's expertise in the 50 and 125 cc scooter sector.
Today, MBK operates under its own label "MBK Industries" and manufactures exclusively for Yamaha. In doing so, the company relies on co-operations with renowned partners such as Minarelli in engine construction. These co-operations have earned MBK a reputation as a high-quality and design-orientated manufacturer. With great conviction in the quality of its products, MBK produces 95% of its scooters in France and has labelled them with the "Made in France" seal since 2013. This underlines the reliability and expertise of the brand.
The MBK Nitro 50 is considered the flagship among MBK scooters, especially for younger customers. It has been on the market for over a decade and has spawned a wide range of variants, including the Nitro 50, Nitro 50 Cat and Nitro 50 Naked models. Depending on the market, this scooter is also produced for Yamaha and sells like hot cakes as the "Yamaha Aerox" in Germany, where it has become the best-selling scooter.
Alongside the Nitro, the Booster 50 is another key model in MBK's portfolio, which is available in various versions. Customers can choose between the Booster Rocket, Naked, Spirit or Track versions, to name but a few. But other models such as the MBK Flipper 50, Mach G 50 AC, Mach 50 LC, Ovetto 50 as well as the MBK Stunt 50 and Stunt Naked 50 should not go unmentioned.
