KAWASAKI overview

in 1878, Shōzō Kawasaki laid the foundations for a huge business empire with the establishment of the KAWASAKI Tsukiji Zōsenjo shipyard in Tokyo. A few years later, in 1901, KAWASAKI created Japan's first steam locomotive. Before the outbreak of World War II, the company played a key role in building up the Japanese fleet, which caused considerable problems for the US Navy. During the war, KAWASAKI produced the famous Ki-61 Hien aeroplane.

From the 1930s to the early 1940s, the KAWASAKI Rolling Stock Manufacturing Company built over 4,000 lorries, buses and ten passenger cars, known as Rokko. These vehicles were manufactured until around 1942. After the end of the war and the dismantling of the armaments industry, KAWASAKI had to reorient itself. Initially, the company focussed on the production of smaller four-stroke engines.

KAWASAKI model history

kAWASAKI launched its first motorbike, the 125 B7, in 1961. Since the 1960s, KAWASAKI motorbikes have been manufactured in Akashi and later also produced internationally. The history of the motorbikes is extensive and will not be recounted here. However, from 2014 KAWASAKI also built maxi scooters such as the KAWASAKI J300, which was later available in a 125 cc version.
