Spark plugs for Vespa & Lambretta at SIP Scootershop
The spark plug is one of the "vital" components of a vehicle with a petrol engine. The spark plug decisively determines the optimum performance and safe functioning of the engine. The spark plug's task is to introduce the high voltage generated by the ignition coil into the combustion chamber and to ignite the compressed fuel-air mixture by the electrical spark between the electrodes.
Particularly in the scooter sector with relatively small displacements and high engine speeds, the highest demands are placed on the spark plugs. Overheating with danger of sticking or sooting of the spark plug are frequent problems if the wrong spark plug is selected. Spark plugs are available in different heat values (indicated as a number in the type code and differing from manufacturer to manufacturer), materials (e.g. copper, silver, platinum) as well as in some common standard sizes (which differ in length, diameter and thread).
Colder spark plugs are suitable for racing cylinders and for long-distance use. Here there is good heat transfer to the cylinder head, but there is a risk of sooting. Warmer spark pl ugs are used for sport and standard cylinders. They reach their operating temperature quickly, but can overheat.
Suppressed spark plugs make sense with non-interfered spark plug connectors: Radio frequencies of mobile phones, radios, etc. are not affected. However, they are not recommended for weak ignitions.
Note: Most spark plugs for scooters have a thread of M14x1.25 SW 20.8 and differ in long thread (19 mm) and short thread (12.7 mm). Caution: A long thread spark plug in a cylinder head for short thread will cause piston damage.
Copper spark plugs
These are the most frequently purchased spark plugs and all-purpose weapons in everyday scooter use. Quickly reaching operating temperature, long-lasting performance, optimal reaction in frequently changing operating conditions, e.g. in city traffic and, last but not least, fuel saving are the key words. The copper core of the centre electrode conducts heat well and thus protects against thermal overload. The nickel-chromium alloy protects the copper core from corrosion and ensures high wear resistance against spark erosion.
Silver spark plugs
They are ideal for tuned engines and extreme operating conditions. They offer even greater ignition reliability and further optimised protection against combustion misfires. For all those who want the best in ignition!
The manufacturers of spark plugs

The DENSO IRIDIUM POWER spark plugs are top of the range. They have a 0.4 mm iridium centre electrode, which ensures the best ignition behaviour even at low ignition voltage. They improve acceleration, starting behaviour and overall engine performance. They have low sooting and long life.
We only have quality spark plugs from Denso, Champion and NGK in our programme. NGK and Denso are Japanese manufacturers. Champion is an American manufacturer and the original equipment manufacturer for Vespa.
Also from the USA are the spark plugs from E3which we have been stocking since August 2021: The unique architecture of the ground electrode creates more turbulence in the fuel-air mixture, promoting faster growth and a larger flame core. By burning the fuel more completely, more fuel is burned with less waste, resulting in more power and better fuel efficiency.
Note: Bosch unfortunately went out of the two-wheel spark plug business worldwide at the end of 2018. However, for all Bosch spark plugs we offer alternatives from NGK, Denso, Champion or E3.
