Custom Creations: Kegra Racing Lambretta

In this episode of our Custom Creations series, Jesco has the honour of meeting a true legend of British motorsport: Keith Terry. The man is over 70 and has been racing Lambrettas around the tracks in the UK for half a decade. In 2020, he set four world records that were officially recognised by the Fédération Internationale de Motocyclisme (FIM). Amongst other things, he raced at 167 and 176 km/h over the quarter-mile and one-kilometre tracks with a flying start. Wow!

During the Scooterist Meltdown in Kalkar at the beginning of the year, he showed Jesco the Lambretta that he is currently racing at the British Scooter Sport Organisation (BSSO) for the Kegra Racing team, which he runs together with Graham Best. "My Lambretta isn't the fastest out there, but it's competitive," he explains and the two racers talk shop about brakes, Choke, Exhaust and Ignition. With around 24 hp, he is competing against scooters with around 30 hp, so he has to bring all his riding skills and experience to bear. It's still enough for top places.

"You don't get old when you have a scooter," says Keith and our respect couldn't be greater. Also in view of the fact that he launched his own racing series in 2019: With his British Scooter Endurance Club (BSEC), he is organising endurance races on the island. The next event is on 18 May at the Whilton Mill kart track and anyone can take part.

We would like to thank Keith for his time and hope he stays involved in racing for many years to come. His enthusiasm is an inspiration to all who have just a bit of full throttle in their blood.
