Variomatic COMPETITION EVO2 from J.COSTA.

The J.COSTA Variomatic with its innovative technology has impressed in many tests with its noticeable increase in performance, and long-term tests also show a high level of stability. The only criticism of earlier versions was the comparatively high wear of the variator sliding weights. The manufacturer has responded to this: With the EVO2, the Variators are not only better matched to the respective vehicles, but are also supplied with a specially coated stainless steel cover. This reduces friction and extends the service life of the sliding weights.

Difference to conventional variators

In the J.COSTA Variomatic, the classic Variator Rollers are replaced by sliding weights that move the Variator in linear tracks. This system is simple and very effective. The linear tracks of the sliding weights are the decisive "turbo" in this variator system. Compared to the standard Variator, J.COSTA offers a shorter transmission ratio in the lower speed range (better acceleration) and at the same time a longer transmission ratio as soon as the sliding weights have reached their outermost point (closed V-Belt Pulley).

"The J.COSTA Variomatic, the installation of which we described in detail in the last issue (see article info download), has proven itself. The GTS 300 starts up better and even runs faster. No other tuning variator has ever achieved this. The measured values: top speed now 122.4 km/h (previously 120.1 km/h), 0-100 km/h in 13.1 s (previously 14.0 s). Most impressive, however, is the uphill rating: the Vespa gained two seconds and flew up our test track in 47.5 s."
