The PIAGGIO ZIP SP conversion steering column has the trailing link suspension assembly positioned on the left hand side of the scooter. The main advantages of the steering column however, lie elsewhere. The extended range of high end shock absorbers (all designed for the PIAGGIO ZIP SP) with external damping reservoirs, the reduced length of the wheelbase and the altered geometry of the suspension are the true merits of this steering column conversion.
A decent suspension setup is essential for racing situations where a 1/10 sec difference in lap-times can mean victory or defeat. Advanced shock absorber systems such as the MALOSSI RS24/10-R with their High-Low regulation of slow and fast movement were up till now only available for automatic scooters, not any more! To allow classic VESPA riders access to all the latest suspension systems for twist and go-pads we have this modified PIAGGIO ZIP SP steering column that has been suitably adapted to fit the listed models. The columns length, threading, steering lock recess and the steering range limiter have been modified to suit.
For correct assembly we recommend the use of the PIAGGIO ZIP SP conversion steering column assembly kit. All the other necessary parts such as the PIAGGIO ZIP SP 10'' wheel, brake assembly, brake calliper, steering column bearings, various fastenings, speedo drive and other assorted fixing and washers.
The shock absorbers that can be used with this steering column are the 'lowered' PK types and of course those that are available for the PIAGGIO ZIP SP itself. The suspension fixings do not require an adaptor as with the PK 50- 125/ S/ XL/ SS/Automatica steering column conversion.
Please note: To complete this conversion successfully a suitable wheel, brake calliper and brake disc must be ordered separately. The front mudguard will also require slight modification to be fixed properly!
