Since 2018, the company VOLspeed from Ehekirchen in Bavaria has been one of the leading manufacturers of innovative tuning modules for e-bikes, pedelecs and S-pedelecs. With the VOLspeed 2 tuning module for e-bikes and pedelecs with YAMAHA motor, a further development is now available on the German market with possibilities for optimisation that are unique: All the settings, such as the speed limit, throttle control and wheel circumference can be made conveniently using the display. A PC or smart phone are no longer required. Moreover, in the “dynamic mode”, the motor output is no longer abruptly reduced at the maximum assistance, which considerably reduces the unwelcome “wall effect”. And now, the VOLspeed 2 tuning module also supports pedelecs which are restricted to 20 km/h.

The tuning module for e-bikes with YAMAHA PW motors
The VOLspeed 2 tuning module is suitable for e-bikes from all the model years, YAMAHA PW-X, PW-TE, PW-X2, PW-ST and PW-TE. It works with all displays.
New features of the VOLspeed 2 tuning module
The V2 version has been improved significantly in comparison with the previous model.

Functions of the VOLspeed 2 tuning module

- When the e-bike or pedelec is initialised, the tuning is deactivated by default.
- The tuning can be activated and deactivated using the buttons on the handlebars.
- The wheel circumference is set on the display during set-up.
- The maximum motor assistance, or maximum throttle control speed, can be set to a value of between 25 and 99 km/h. The set value is saved.
- The maximum motor assistance can be set to 32 km/h, for example. That means you travel at a good pace and only use the battery moderately.
- Selecting “Dynamic Mode” softens the “wall effect”. The motor assistance is also available at higher speed ranges.
- Correct display of the speed and kilometres travelled.
- Display of the average and maximum speed.
- When the tuning is active, the corrected calculation of the range takes place. The driving style, battery use and set assistance level are taken into account.
- Following the removal of the module, the total mileage is correctly maintained.
Installation, activation and control of the VOLspeed tuning module
With its reduced size, the VOLspeed 2 tuning module is even easier to fit to the YAMAHA motor. Its activation and control take place via the display, and its removal should be possible without leaving wear marks.
Installation
Allen keys sized 3 & 6 mm are required. Those who prefer things to be a little more convenient should get a torque ratchet. The PW-X requires 3, 5 & 6 mm Allen keys. A torque ratchet and a chain-ring wrench can also be of help here. Neither technical expertise nor special tools are required. A time outlay of between 15 and 30 minutes is to be expected. Cable connections just need plugging in, otherwise no changes to the motor are necessary. The VOLspeed 2 tuning module isn’t visible after installation, but disappears completely under the fairing of the engine. Activation & Control
Neither a PC nor smart phone are required, the VOLspeed tuning module is ready for use immediately following installation and is configured via the display. Set the wheel circumference and the chosen top speed – and you’re done. The video helps you too. The tuning can be controlled very easily via the display while driving, and can also be activated and deactivated.
Removal
Thanks to the plug-in connections, the removal is generally as straightforward as the installation. The video can simply be followed in reverse and the removal should work. There should be no visible damage to the e-bike or pedelec.
Conclusion: The logical further development of the previous model with new functions for the current YAMAHA motors.
