2-coil Stator Plates with internal Ignition Coil

The 2-coil Stator Plates for 4-pole magnets are available with an internal Ignition Coil and a 6 V / 15 W Lighting Coil. This version is an exact 1:1 replica of the original part and is intended solely for original restorations. It must not be used with noise-suppressed Spark Plugs, Spark Plug Resistor Caps, or ignition cables.

For tuned small-frame engines equipped with a standard internal Ignition Coil, we recommend converting to a Stator Plate with an external Ignition Coil. Due to the engine’s increased compression ratio, the required ignition voltage also increases. This is no longer 100% guaranteed with the internal Ignition Coil.

2-Coil Stator Plates with External Ignition Coil

The 2-coil Stator Plates for 4-pole magnets are also available for external Ignition Coils rated at 6 V / 15 W, with either a standard or reinforced Lighting Coil, as well as 6 V / 25 W for Models with High Beams.

For tuned small-frame engines equipped with a standard internal Ignition Coil, we recommend upgrading to a Stator Plate with an external Ignition Coil. This provides a higher ignition voltage and is less sensitive to moisture and temperature. Due to the engine’s increased compression ratio, the required ignition voltage rises. With internal ignition coils, this can lead to high-voltage arcing, which destroys the ignition coil. Models with Brake Lights require a 6 V / 15 W bulb or Festoon Bulb.

3-Coil Stator Plates for 6-Pin Magnets

The 3-coil Stator Plate for 6-pin solenoids features, in addition to the charging coil, Lighting Coils rated at 6 V / 10 W for Brake Lights and Parking Lights and 6 V / 25 W for Headlights and Horns. Here, we distinguish between models with and without Handlebar Indicators.

The version with Handlebar Indicators includes a 6 V / 18 W coil for the Indicators. The 6 V / 10 W Brake Light is connected to the charging coil for the external Ignition Coil. The 25 W Lighting Coil powers the Headlight Unit, Horn, and Rear Light.

These Stator Plates can be installed on all 2- and 3-coil Smallframes, even if national variations result in different PIAGGIO part numbers.

Important: Only 6 V bulbs may be used with 6 V Stator Plates; 12 V bulbs are not compatible.

Conclusion: Finally, a high-quality alternative to converting to electronic Ignition—an Italian-Austrian-German project.

SIP TIP:

• Order a new external Ignition Coil as well. A Flywheel Puller, Piston Stopper, and Ignition Timing Degree Disc make working on the Ignition easier. Check the Wiring Loom for defects and replace it if necessary.

Installation Instructions

The surface of the contacts on the Contact Breaker may oxidize. If necessary, it must be carefully cleaned before use, for example with a strip of cardboard (usually included).

New Contact Breakers should be readjusted after 50–80 km. Otherwise, misfires may occur.

Only 6-V bulbs may be used with 6-V Stator Plates; do not use 12-V bulbs.

If the Brake Light is defective, there will be no ignition spark in 2-coil Stator Plates either.

Daily, parts from original manufacturers such as PIAGGIO or OEM are taken out of production. This means there is no other alternative to used parts if you need a missing disk, clip or bracket. Nerve wracking and time consuming at the least, trying to run down those little missing necessary parts.
