A carburettor from the U.S. promises to revolutionize fuel mixture preparation for 2-stroke engines. The goals SMARTCARB aims to achieve with its carburettors are ambitious:
- 10% increase in power
- 30% reduction in fuel consumption
- 50% reduction in exhaust emissions
- Altitude compensation up to over 22,000 feet
To achieve these goals, the carburettors offer three features that clearly set them apart from many other carburettors:
- Tuning without jets
- Exceptionally fine atomization
- Automatic adjustment to air pressure
The strengths of these carburettors lie primarily in their ease of use and performance on the road or racetrack. Of course, a SMARTCARB also needs to be adjusted, but without the traditional jet changes. All that’s required—or possible—is to change the “rod.”
In our tests, the engine’s cold-start performance and throttle response have improved. The engine runs smoother and can be controlled more precisely via the throttle. A major advantage is the automatic adjustment to pressure conditions: The engine starts just as reliably in the morning rain by the lake as it does at noon in the sun in the mountains.
The Smart Carburetor Adjustment
SMARTCARB carburettors can be adjusted in a matter of seconds and without tools using a click system that changes the position of the Needle. The tuning is done without changing jets.
To ensure this works with specific engines, the carburettors are preconfigured. For the models in our lineup, we’ve provided SMARTCARB with specifications detailing the types of engines the carburettors are designed to work with. The configurations cover a relatively wide range and can be prepared based on general specifications. They are compatible with 2-stroke engines and do not require special fuel.
The SC3 Generation
SMARTCARB is continuously refining its carburettors. The third generation, the SC3, is currently available. Here’s an overview of the key differences from the previous SC2 generation:
- The SC3 has been fundamentally simplified. For the smaller sizes, 26/28 mm, it uses one-piece unibody casings. It is also lighter and more compact overall than the SC2 and is easier and more cost-effective to manufacture.
- The SC3 features patented CloudForge™ venturi technology in the 36–40 mm sizes, which optimizes airflow and fuel atomization compared to the SC2.
- Thanks to revised slide edge geometry—the “Blended Slide Cutaway”—the SC3 offers an even smoother transition directly from idle.
- The SC3 features improved moisture management for extreme weather conditions, as well as faster ventilation of the Float Chamber via an enlarged air intake hood.
Conclusion: A carburetor innovation designed to make fuel injection obsolete.
