SIP Performance – The name of the game
For more than 10 years now, the SIP Performance has been the most sought-after racing exhaust for largeframe scooters. Being an active motorcycle racer himself during the 1960s, Jim Lomas started manufacturing 2-stroke racing exhausts in 1979. Due to the strong growth in demand for Vespa and Lambretta exhausts in England, he soon specialized in the production of such exhausts. When the German streetracing scene started craving for a very powerful exhaust, especially in the lower and middle rev range, the time had come for the development of the ”SIP Performance“ in cooperation with SIP Scootershop: a powerful exhaust in the lower rev range, stainless steel, wide tire and main stand mounting possible. Meanwhile, this classic has not only seen further research and development work, but has also become the target of some rather poor imitations.
The exhaust is handmade from stainless steel. Its extraordinarily beautiful look is backed up by the additional benefit of ending all your corrosion problems. The exhaust is partly built with double walls in order to minimize noise levels. The jointpipe is suspended at both sides by springs. The mounting at the traverse is built to resist the vibrations of the silencer. The exhaust does not feature an o-ring gasket between jointpipe, body and outlet nozzle as such a rigid connection increases the possibility of tear. The exhaust works equally well with standard, road or bottom-end tuned engines. Depending on the engine settings, the exhaust makes for 15-28 hp in power and a top speed of 105-150 km/h.
The SIP Performance NG differs from any standard exhaust by the following features:
- screw-on silencer
- power increase (a MALOSSI 211cc engine with racing crankshaft and 24mm carburetor will gain approx 1 PS)
JL warranty: We are convinced of the quality of the exhaust systems. In case an exhaust should still tear, Jim Lomas will either repair the damage or replace the exhaust (except for riders hitting the curb or mistaking the exhaust for a moose hunting weapon). This 3-years warranty (from date of purchase) applies to all original owners who bought the exhaust at our shop.
Material stainless steel / silencer stainless steel / titanium / left-hand
Welded manually from many segments, stainless steel, screw-on silencer made of stainless steel or titanium, left-hand, mounting with wide tire or main stand possible, spare wheel mounting not possible, all springs with rubber jacket
SIP TiP:
PX200: SI main jet increase of at least 10 sizes mandatory; MALOSSI 210cc, Cosa clutch, racing/longstroke crankshaft, modified cylinder head recommendable; SIP Performance ignition, reed-valve carburettor 30-36mm, lip crankshafts etc will bring the engine close to 30 hp.
Quotation SCOOTERING, England, „exhaust test“:
“Let´s take a look at the performance diagram: Bingo Bongo! 18.3 horsepower at 6,840 rpm as well as 19 Nm from 6,200- 6,800 rpm! The characteristics of this exhaust are similar to the PM Evolution, whereby the SIP is a good deal more elastic. The power curve flies through the whole range of revolutions up to the maximum of 18.3 horsepower. At 5,000 rpm there´s still 10.4 horsepower as well as 15 Nm packed in the back tire. Very good for daily street use, very good when doing wheelies down by the bus stop. The SIP Performance impressed us with it´s elasticity, it really stomps on it! Our highway test was also impressive - at 140 km/h maximum. The sound and the material used in construction is worth stealing for....”
Quotation Worb5 "PX exhaust test": "27.5 hp at 7620 rpm, 26.9 Nm at 6860 rpm. Yes! Another perfect ten. Power, torque, the corresponding rpms and the width of the rev range are clearly speaking for themselves ! .... The PM Evo is beaten by about 300rpm. Good exhaust !"
