Replica and Premium Grips for Vespa: Authentic Look in Various Styles
High-quality, precisely fitting replicas of the original handles. They match the original in both shape and color. Similar to the Horn Cover emblems, the handles on older models feature a square PIAGGIO logo. They are available in gray, light gray, beige/gray with a vintage look, and black. Newer models feature the distinctive hexagon or Vespa logo.
Additionally, grips of the highest premium quality are available. These are made from high-quality, lightfast rubber that does not harden quickly and does not develop a bluish tint. With their vintage design featuring a subtle checkered pattern and the classic logo, they match the original Grips in both quality and appearance down to the last detail.
Important: Be sure to check for the correct size when purchasing. The exact dimensions are specified, including the diameters of the throttle and Gear Tube as well as the handle length. In general, all Grips with identical dimensions are interchangeable. However, on newer large-frame models, 1970s models, and PX models, vintage Grips with a fine checkered pattern and the old PIAGGIO logo are slightly too short, which can result in a small gap between the handle and the Handlebar. This can usually be resolved by shortening the Gear Tube and the Throttle Tube.
SIP TIP:
- If you don’t plan to reuse the old Grips, the easiest way to remove them is to carefully cut them lengthwise with a utility knife. Installing new handles works best if you soak them in hot water for about 10 minutes. This makes the rubber flexible. Then quickly slide the handle over the Gear Tube. Wear gloves—it’s hot!
- Old grips can often be easily removed by blowing compressed air between the handle and the handlebar.
- New grips can be easily installed using hairspray. When sliding them on, the hairspray acts as a lubricant; later, it becomes sticky and prevents the grips from slipping down or twisting.
Rubber parts are the most reliable indicator of a Vespa’s age and mileage.
While standard, like-new rubber parts round out every full restoration and perfect the vehicle’s like-new condition, we now also carry handlebar grips in our lineup that, with their patina, blend unobtrusively into the appearance of used Vespas.
Tore Sambataro, who calls himself the “Patina Pope,” handcrafts each individual handle using secret methods he has developed himself over the years. Unfortunately, not all rubber compounds are suitable for patination. Therefore, we can only offer certain shades of gray and select models in patina versions.
