Product description

Disc Brakes for Lambretta models—a modern upgrade for greater braking power, better control, and increased safety.

Perhaps the most famous technical feature ever fitted to Lambretta models is the Disc Brake. INNOCENTI was the first company to equip a motorcycle with this modern form of braking as standard. Unfortunately, although the first Disc Brakes were a major step in the right direction for their time, they were not yet as sophisticated as today’s systems. They were still actuated by a Cable rather than a low-loss hydraulic system. Furthermore, the torque support in the front fork was hinged in the same way as with a Drum Brake. As a result, the fork compresses deeply with every braking action, leaving little to no suspension travel to absorb road irregularities.

Today, the aftermarket offers many options for upgrading a Lambretta’s brakes. A drum brake model can be fitted with a Disc Brake. A Disc Brake model can be equipped with a hydraulic control system. An external Disc Brake with higher braking performance can be installed. Last but not least, external Disc Brakes are also available with anti-dive, which prevents the Fork from compressing too much during braking.

The different designs of Disc Brakes each have their own advantages:

  • A replica of the original Disc Brake blends very discreetly into the Lambretta’s elegant, classic appearance.
  • Converting to a hydraulic system significantly elevates braking performance without altering the appearance too much.
  • Externally mounted Disc Brakes feature larger-diameter discs and larger Brake Calipers. This allows for significantly higher braking performance.
  • External Disc Brakes with anti-dive also represent a significant improvement to the suspension.

Whether a Disc Brake fits a particular Lambretta—and, if so, which modifications are required—depends primarily on two factors:

  • Drum brake and Disc Brake models have different fork links. Most Disc Brakes available today come in versions for both models.
  • If a fully hydraulic Disc Brake is installed, a master cylinder must be accommodated. For this reason, many Disc Brake kits come with an Adaptor for the Brake Grip, which also houses the Light Switch. This Adaptor varies depending on the Model.

In general, it is almost always possible to swap Disc Brakes between models in the 125 LI/LIS/DL/GP, 150 LI/LIS/SX/DL/GP, 175 TV 2°–3°, and 200 TV/SX/DL/GP. We always specify which models the brakes are intended for based on the original fork links and brake lever adapters.

Note: Replacement Parts Disc Brakes are not always compatible with all other Replacement Parts. For example, certain external Disc Brakes cannot be installed with tubeless rims or Shock Absorbers with Fluid Reservoirs.

High-quality replica of the original internal Disc Brake for the Lambretta 175 TV 3°/200 TV/SX/DL/GP. The Brake is delivered pre-assembled. During installation, ensure that the correct Axle Seating or Fork Links are installed.

Conclusion: A Disc Brake is a modern upgrade that enhances safety and riding enjoyment.

SIP TIP:

  • When replacing the brake, all other Fork components should be in perfect condition: Bushes and bearings on the fork links, springs, dampers, Steering Head Bearing, etc.
