Product description
MIKUNI flat slide carburettors TM/TMX - compact racing carburettors for very direct response and stable mixture formation. For sporty set-ups up to approx. 30 hp, e.g. on largeframes with MALOSSI 210 cc and in smallframe race tuning.
MIKUNI flat slide carburetors are significantly more compact than the VHSA/VHSB series from DELL'ORTO - this makes installation easier and ensures extremely direct response due to the short design. The voluminous Float Chamber and the encapsulated jet systems support a constant mixture composition across all ranges, even at high centrifugal and acceleration forces. The range includes MIKUNI carburettors in 24-35 mm as TM (double flat slide, screwed) and TMX (even more compact, flow-optimized rounded, partly with Powerjet).
- Very compact design for direct response behavior
- Constant mixture formation thanks to large Float Chamber and encapsulated nozzle system
- TMX variants with Powerjet for finer tuning in the upper load range
- Cleanly separable tuning ranges thanks to linear jet flow
The TM and TMX series rely on a short, compact design, which is particularly advantageous in tight installation situations and makes the response noticeably more direct. At the same time, the large Float Chamber and the encapsulated nozzle system stabilize the mixture preparation - a plus point when the vehicle is exposed to strong acceleration and centrifugal forces in sporty applications.
On TMX versions with Powerjet (e.g. 27/30/38), the range between 3/4 throttle and full throttle can be made leaner to achieve better pulling power on the straights: The Main Jet can be set smaller, while the Powerjet injects additional fuel under load to prevent lean at full throttle. In practice, the basic tuning often works well via the Main Jet. Important: MIKUNI does not specify the bore, but the flow rate of the jets; the jet flow rate is linear over the engine speed range, which means that the individual ranges can be clearly differentiated from each other. As a rough guide: nozzle size MIKUNI ≈ nozzle size DELL'ORTO × 2.
Technical details
- Sizes: 24-35 mm (depending on version)
- Versions: TM and TMX
- TM: double flat gate valve, screwed
- TMX: more compact design, flow-optimized rounded, partly with Powerjet nozzle
- Powerjet (depending on model): additional fuel enrichment under load, enables smaller Main Jet for leaner range at 3/4 full throttle
- Nozzle logic: MIKUNI specifies the flow rate (not the bore); linear progression over the speed range
- Guide value: MIKUNI nozzle size ≈ DELL'ORTO nozzle size × 2
Conclusion: Excellent workmanship and very well tunable in comparison.

Mikuni Carburetors have an enlarged manifold surface giving them higher performance in lower rpm´s than the Dell´Orto drum carburetors and are smaller than the VHSA/VHSB. Also the 27, 30 and 38er Mikuni´s are powerjet carburetors, that lean up the mix with a secondary jet when running at full pull. The carburetors can be adjusted through the main jet. The inlet size of the 32er Mikuni is almost double compared to the 30er PHBH from Dell´Orto. 211er motors get along fine with the standard adjustment of the 35er.
