It doesn't always have to be a new Cylinder..
Once a Cylinder has covered a few thousand kilometers, it is essential to replace the Piston Rings or even the Piston in order to continue to ensure reasonable compression. We have the most important spare and wear parts for all common tuning and original cylinders in stock for you: i.e. Pistons, Piston Rings, Piston Pins, Gudgeon Pin Retaining Rings and Gasket Sets.
For older models, we offer pistons up to the 5th oversize (OS). This allows even worn cylinders to be reconditioned. The specified bore or diameter always refers to the cylinder dimension.
Our top choice for pistons is METEOR. METEOR pistons stand out for their very high quality. GRAND-SPORT pistons are also manufactured by METEOR.
In the PIAGGIO VINTAGE line, many pistons that PIAGGIO no longer produces itself come from GOL in Italy. GOL also offers oversize sizes in 0.2-mm increments.
Most pistons are equipped with two standard Piston Rings (2 × N) that are 2.5 mm thick; on small-frame models, they are usually 2.0 mm thick. On newer models, the top Piston Ring is often designed as an L-Ring. Older Vespa models use nose pistons, while newer models use window pistons with a domed piston crown.
CAUTION: Before installing a new piston, always check the piston clearance according to the manufacturer’s specifications. Failure to maintain the specified piston clearance can result in excessive knocking or engine damage.
These products fit perfectly – SIP TIPS:
- Install Piston Rings carefully and do not overstretch them, as this poses a risk of breakage. Pay attention to piston ring end-to-end clearance as well as the type and design of the rings. Trapezoidal rings can only be installed in one direction.
- Useful tools for working on pistons and cylinders include Piston Ring Calipers, the BUZZETTI tool for installing and removing Gudgeon Pins, and the Gudgeon Pin Chuck.
