The POLINI RACE carburettor kit generally includes a carburettor from the DELL’ORTO SHB range. For the older smallframes, we also stock a POLINI RACE kit with DELL'ORTO PHBL 24. The POLINI kits are attached with a stud connection and are designed for compatibility with the 2 hole engines of the old models of smallframe. They are perfect as a rapid help in the event of a damaged disc valve and for decent tuning of smallframes up to approx. 130 cc. The SERIE PRO RACE kits for the SHBC 19.19E (also available with 3-hole connection matching the PK XL) and for the SHB 16.16 (for Vespa 50-90/125 VMA1) were also supplied by POLINI until recently. We now put them together ourselves using high quality original components (POLINI, DELL'ORTO).
For those who want to go that one step further the MALOSSI RACE carburettor kits are ideal. These are available for both 2 and 3-hole engines and include a DELL'ORTO PHBL 25 carburettor as standard. Due to the attachment with the rubber connection subsequent conversion to a bigger carburettor remains an option. All kits are supplied complete with a carburettor, reed valve manifold, air filter and all the small components required for installation and assembly. MALOSSI basically offers the carburettor kits in two versions – one for 50cc and one for 125cc engines. The carburettors are already tuned to the cylinders that are installed.
Please note: Theoretically, these kits can be installed to the engine and then used without any modifications. To make full use of the advantages of a reed valve control system, however, making wide ranging changes to the engine is also recommended (removing the disc valve sealing surface, adjusting the intake cross section on the intake manifold, etc.). It is not possible to reverse these changes once they have been made.
Conclusion: An all-round no worries package for conversion to reed valve control.
SIP-TIP: A flowed crankshaft (e.g.: part no 46110000) and sports exhaust are the perfect finishing touch to a reed valve conversion! The jets on the carburettor have to be adjusted accordingly before the first trip. Use a jetting kit (e.g. part no 40100000).
