A honing attachment tool, to hone the steel bore of cylinders.
Piston ring manufacturers stipulate that the bore of the cylinder to which any new rings are fitted be first honed before the cylinder is placed over the piston during reassembly. This enables a fresh seal to be facilitated between the outer contact surface of the rings and the bore of the cylinder, essential for the operation of two-stroke motors. This method is usually employed when the specified manufacturing tolerances allow the existing piston size to be retained and do not require the fitting of an oversize piston, but new rings are sufficient to restore an effective seal.

This honing attachment tool is driven by a power drill which is then carefully inserted into the bore of the cylinder to be honed, and slowly moved up and down its length while being rotated by the drill. This movement creates a cross diagonal hone, ideally at 65°/115° angles. The use of a lubricating oil during this process lengthens the working-life of these tools considerably and is therefore highly recommended! These honing tools are not intended to increase the bore diameter, but instead to restructure the bore surface in preparation for a new piston and/or new piston rings identical to the existing size. The hone effect ensures the necessary retention of two-stroke oil along its length during operation.
Cylinder honing tools all have clearly defined parameters as to the diameter of cylinder bore they can effectively prepare by honing. This value usually covers around 10% of the cylinders original factory bore diameter.
Conclusion: The ideal tool to provide the essential hone to steel bore cylinders!
