DR 84.4 cc cylinder kit for Vespa 50/PK - high-torque cast iron setup for relaxed cruising and powerful bottom-end pull.
The APE belongs to Italy like tuning belongs to Vespa - and that's exactly where this cylinder concept comes from: originally intended for the APE cargo trike, the DR cylinder also fits the standard 50 cc Vespa models. Its unique layout with rectangular exhaust and rather relaxed timing makes the direction clear: not maximum speed, but plenty of torque from the rev range. Ideal for making good progress in everyday life - even with a pillion and on longer journeys. It is important to note that the gear ratio must be adjusted for a harmonious setup. The DR scores with "power from below" and then feels particularly smooth and confident.
In addition, DR Cylinders are painted black for Corrosion Protection and better heat dissipation. If you want to get a little more out of it, you can rework the exhaust and adapt the contour to a more trapezoidal shape - but the basic character remains clearly designed for torque.
- High-torque layout
- Plug-and-play on Vespa 50/PK/XL/XL2
- Transfer ports as original - no housing machining necessary
- Robust cast iron cylinder incl. DR Cylinder Head and Gasket Set
Technically, the kit is based on a cast iron cylinder with a 50 mm bore, 3 transfer ports and 84.43 cc (stroke 43 mm). The Piston comes with 2 Piston Rings and a flat piston crown. The exhaust is rectangular (width 26 mm chord dimension), the exhaust studs are 6 mm. The original DR Cylinder Head is included, compression ratio 10.7:1, Gasket Set included. As with any increase in displacement, the jetting should be adjusted.
Also fits many 50 cc Vespas: originally developed for the APE, but compatible with Vespa 50/PK/XL/XL2 (except PK automatic) - without machining the housing.
Conclusion: Ideal Cylinder for relaxed cruising and powerful pulling - suitable for long distances and full throttle, especially good for use in pairs. However, the primary gear ratio should definitely be adjusted.
PURCHASE RECOMMENDATION: SIP TIP
- Adjust the Main Jet and fit a new Spark Plug. The ratio change is mandatory: minimum 3.72 primary, maximum 3.00. The setup becomes even sportier with a 16/16 Carburettor, original exhaust with thick Exhaust Manifold or SITO banana."
Feedback
"Long-lasting Cylinder ... best with Dell'Orto 19.19, 2.86 ratio ... 3.00 is also possible ... chrome banana on it."
