Product description

DEA are a small component producer from Crevalcore near Modena in northern Italy and have made a name for themselves on the Kart racing scene. They make high tech parts, including cylinders and even whole engines, for racing 'Super Karts'. Their high-end components are of the highest quality and performance potential and belong to the finest currently available. DEAs expertise is not just restricted to Kart tuning and they also cater for GP and Motocross motorbikes plus the automotive sector with the advantages of their state of the art development and production techniques.

Vespa smallframe fans can consider themselves fortunate that they have now turned their attention to providing parts to tune the smaller engines. The result is an elaborately produced tuning cylinder that exploits every single millimetre of available space, increasing the cross-sectional area of the transfer ports and improving gas-flow. The port layout has been influenced by their considerable experience with GP and Super Kart race motors and has lead to an impressive cylinder that once more extends the performance envelope for racing scooters in the 150cc class. Power outputs of over 40 PS are relatively simple to achieve. With a combination of experience, careful development and testing several tuners have even managed to break the 50 PS barrier with this kit.

This sort of performance is of course only possible from the DEA cylinders when combined with equally radical peripheral components. The carburettor, exhaust, clutch, transmission, etc. must all be capable of handling motor speeds beyond 10,000 rpm!

The DEA cylinders are compatible with the original cylinder mounting stud positions on the smallframe engine. There are versions available to fit both the original Vespa engine casings and also aftermarket casings such as those produced by QUATTRINI.  They differ in the diameter of the transfer ports. 82mm for original casings and 100mm for Quattrini and Co. All engine types will require modification to be properly fitted with these DEA cylinders.

The precision production and the materials used in these cylinders are both of extremely high quality. The cylinder kit includes a comprehensive specification:

  • Inlet manifold with a 40.5mm internal diameter.
  • Reed valve 68x51mm, carbon petals.
  • 38mm exhaust flange-plate.
  • 2 x 0.35mm & 2 x 0.30mm & 2 x 0.02mm cylinder base gaskets.
  • 1 x 0.05mm & 1 x 0.1mm cylinder head gaskets.
  • Cylinder mounting studs, manifold, exhaust and cylinder head attachment bolts.
  • 58mm Vertex 'Pro Race' piston.
  • Cylinder head with central spark plug opening and eight attachment bolts.
  • Cylinder : 7 x transfer ports, 3 outlet ports, cylinder includes Boysen ports, exhaust and transfer ports arranged around cylinder mounting stud openings, exhaust with 3x bolts, 'O'-ring gasket channel on cylinder head.

Conclusion: The DEA is playing in the highest tuning league in all aspects of its design: Potential performance, quality, production and materials! To successfully include this cylinder in the set up of your engine much experience, attention to detail and a commitment to the purchase of extra components and materials are required.

Aluminium / 58mm bore / 7 transfer ports / double-bridged exhaust port / includes manifold, reed valve, cylinder head

SIP -TIP : A smallframe Vespa fitted with this motor set up also deserves uprated tyres, suspension and brakes. A fast and powerful scooter can hardly be used to its full potential when you are slow in curves and have to start braking way before red lights and stop signs require you to. Not to mention an overall lack of safety in modern traffic. So, do not forget to order a set of SIP Performance 2.0 shock absorbers and a Grimeca front disc brake for a safer experience.
