The Crash Pad is simply glued to the lower part of the small engine half, above the Driveshaft. There, it protects the Crankcase in the event of a crash. In racing, in particular, this area is often subjected to heavy stress and can be damaged—or, in extreme cases, break—due to repeated contact with the ground.
