A longer gear ratio lowers the engine speed at the same speed, protects the engine and can increase the top speed.
If a tuning measure has achieved a significant increase in performance and thus speed, the original transmission ratio often improves acceleration performance in particular, while the top speed only increases slightly. As a lot of driving is done at high speed, the Engine is often running at its limit. This means more stress and more wear on the Crankshaft, Bearing and Piston.
With a longer gear ratio, the same top speed can be achieved at a lower - and therefore more engine-friendly - engine speed. At the same time, a higher top speed is possible and overspeeding of the Engine downhill is prevented. Any loss of acceleration can then be compensated for by retuning the variator: Select slightly lighter rollers and set the Clutch harder.
The sports gear ratios from MALOSSI and POLINI are predominantly straight-toothed. As a result, the contact surface of the meshing teeth is smaller, friction is reduced and less heat is generated in the transmission area. The power can therefore be transferred more efficiently to the rear wheel.
