Flash gun for checking the ignition timing - check the pre-ignition and set it correctly.
Once the mark for the pre-ignition has been determined, it is checked whether the ignition timing is actually in the correct position. A very high-quality flash gun from HELLA and a cheaper alternative are available for this purpose.
The application is uncomplicated: The inductive clip is opened and clamped to the HT Lead near the Spark Plug. Power is supplied via 12 V, e.g. via a car battery. Engine is then started, the flash gun is pointed at the pointer and the trigger is pressed. The flash makes it appear as if the Flywheel is stationary and the previously applied pre-ignition mark becomes visible. If the Ignition is set correctly, the marking is aligned with the pointer. If this is not the case, the Stator Plate must be corrected accordingly.
