Every July, the SIP Joyride takes place – a day-long scooter ride in a large group that has already become a tradition for many. For most participants, the Joyride actually begins at home with the journey to SIP Scootershop in Landsberg. In many places, groups form – organising themselves via Facebook, for example – and so arrive together as a convoy here in Landsberg. Little by little, more and more participants trickle in from all directions, have a coffee at the Siperia, swap stories about their scooters and admire the gleaming Vespas and Lambrettas.

The oldest Vespa to take part so far was built in 1948; the oldest participant was 88 years old; one rider came from Australia, and another from Hong Kong! And, in their own words, visiting Landsberg and taking part in the Vespa Tour was a bigger highlight for them than Neuschwanstein Castle and the Bundestag in Berlin. Scooter riders had travelled from as far afield as the Moselle, beyond Stuttgart, from Vorarlberg and Salzburg to take part in this friendly event in Landsberg.

The tour takes us along narrow roads from the SIP Scootershop in Landsberg through Landsberg’s beautiful old town, past picturesque little villages between the Lech and Ammersee – one of Germany’s most beautiful landscapes. Our destination is the loveliest beer garden on the Ammersee: the old villa in Utting. We can ride our scooters right up to the beer garden, where we’ll be treated to traditional Bavarian hospitality.
