2.Meaning of the battery symbols
Batteries are labelled with the symbol of a crossed-out wheelie bin. This symbol indicates that batteries must not be disposed of with household waste. Batteries that contain more than 0.0005 per cent mercury by mass, more than 0.002 per cent cadmium by mass or more than 0.004 per cent lead by mass are labelled with the chemical name of the pollutant below the dustbin symbol - "CD" stands for cadmium, "Pb" for lead and "Hg" for mercury."

3.Vehicle batteries / starter batteries
The following special features apply to the sale of vehicle batteries (these are batteries intended for the Starter, lighting or Ignition of vehicles): In accordance with § 10 BattG, the seller is obliged to charge end users a deposit of 7.50 euros including VAT per vehicle battery if the end user does not return an old vehicle battery to the seller at the time of purchase of the new vehicle battery. The customer receives a deposit voucher when purchasing a vehicle battery. The customer can return the old vehicle battery to the seller for a refund of the deposit. Due to the Hazardous Goods Ordinance, it is not permitted to send the old vehicle battery to the seller. Alternatively, the customer can return the old vehicle battery to a collection point set up by the public waste disposal organisation. If the old vehicle battery is not returned to the seller collecting the deposit, the authorised collector in accordance with Section 11 (3) BattG who takes back the old vehicle battery is obliged, upon request, to confirm to the end user in writing or electronically that the battery has been taken back without a deposit refund. In this case, the customer shall be reimbursed the deposit collected by the seller, provided that the customer submits written or electronic proof of return to the seller in accordance with Section 10 (1) sentence 4 BattG, which is not older than two weeks at the time of submission
