Exhaust systems - for classic Vespa and APE at SIP Scootershop
Next to the choice of cylinders, the choice of the right exhaust is the most important decision for the engine design. The larger the displacement, the larger the exhaust volume. The larger the volume, the higher the peak power. We have the right exhaust systems for all application areas and engine groups.
A rough distinction
The space for an exhaust is limited on the Vespa. The more powerful the cylinders, the more volume the exhaust needs. The following is a brief overview:
Standard exhaust: no performance increase, can be used legally in road traffic. Smallframes are mounted on exhaust ports.
Racing exhaust - Righthand: The muffler is placed under or behind the engine. Mounting of the spare wheel is always possible.
Racing exhaust- Lefthand: The exhaust body passes the rear wheel on the left. The muffler partially disappears under the kick plate. The large volume results in a decent power boost. On the PKs, the side plate must be modified. Lefthands are also available for the high-end cylinders with large exhaust/ stud hole spacing.
On the largeframes, the muffler is placed on the spare wheel side. With some exhaust systems, the spare wheel operation is no longer possible there.
With the Smallframe there are some additional variants:
Standard exhaust - banana: Originally fitted to Vespa 50 SR/SS/90 R/SS/125 PV ET3/ PK125 ETS. Good touring exhaust on the other classic V50/90/100/125/PV.
Racing exhaust - banana: Perfect fit, good price-performance ratio, available for all 4 Smallframe switch scooter classes, visually inconspicuous. The body disappears under the left side bonnet. On PK models, the spare wheel must then give way.
Racing exhaust - Down&Forward: The exhaust body passes the rear wheel on the left. The muffler comes out diagonally under the kick plate on the right in the direction of travel.
Racing exhaust- 180°: To be able to ride the system, the cylinder must be mounted rotated by 180° so that the outlet points in the direction of travel. Not for beginners, but spectacular and with a lot of power.
Racing exhaust - Curly: Powerful racing exhaust systems that only fitcurled under the frame because of their large body. On the classic Smallframes Vespa 50-125/PV/ET3, modifications to the side panel are necessary on the V50 Special V5B3T/Elestart/PV/ET3 models. On all PK models, the side panel must be modified. Therefore, the model assignment is only limited to those models where no frame modifications are necessary and the standard cylinder also fits from the connection: Vespa 90/R/SS/100/125 VMA1T. The exhaust bracket is designed for PK and V50/PV/ET3 engines.
In addition to the types, we also distinguish between different tuning classes:
ROAD-Tuning
suitable for everyday use & reliable: For the normal everyday rider who wants to achieve more power on a durable basis with little effort. Faster acceleration, more powerful on hills, higher top speed. Tuning is inconspicuous in the first stages, sometimes even permissible in road traffic. The noise level is kept within limits.
In other words: increased performance with high suitability for everyday use.
SPORT-TUNING
Powerful & roadworthy: This category builds on ROAD-Tuning. Much of it is compatible. A racing cylinder is always the basis. Exhaust systems and carburettors are combined with it. The target group is the performance-hungry everyday rider who likes to step on the gas and does not need to hide his tuning. Strong acceleration, top speeds beyond 120 km/h and yet high durability are the hallmarks of this class.
RACE tuning
for the highest demands: The royal class in the scooter sector. All performance fetishists get their money's worth here. For anyone for whom the normal is not enough and who is looking for the performance limit. Tuning experience and the necessary small change are required here. The parts can be found in most racing engines, whether quartermile, lap race or dyno battle. Most components can also be used as SPORT tuning.
Hall of Fame - Some of our exhaust brands
We do not include every exhaust on the market in our programme. We test almost all of them and then concentrate on the essentials:
SIP ROAD: The Road exhausts are made by the manufacturer to our specifications and are not retrofitted. They are currently the racer among the touring bikes. Inexpensive, powerful, available in various shapes and colours.
SITO: Good and inexpensive standard exhaust systems. The SITO Plus is a classic among road racing exhausts.
MALOSSI/POLINI/SIMONINI/PINASCO: Developed decades ago, tried and tested for decades. Good and reasonably priced sports racing exhausts. Tinny sound, high revving, visually inconspicuous.
JL: Jim Lomas, the English exhaust guru, manufactures almost all renowned racing exhaust systems: SIP Performance, SIP Evo, RZ. All of them are unique, handcrafted and are constantly being developed. Very good quality, great variety: from the high-torque SIP Performance to the speed monster RZ Righthand. The long friendly relationship with JL also allows the production of small series such as DSE or T5 units.
SERIES PRO: Here we again group together small but fine tuning companies that have developed or produce systems and have market credentials: e.g. Scooter & Service and DSE for Bottem-End or PEP 3.0 as a strong tourer.
The following applies to all racing exhaust systems: Unless otherwise indicated, for racing and exhibition purposes only. Not approved in the area of the German Road Traffic Licensing Regulations (StVZO), i.e. consultation with the local TÜV office is necessary.
