GALFER - from Italy to Spain
In November 1952, Maffio Milesi (the father of Umberto, the current Managing Director) decided to open an industrial warehouse in Barcelona dedicated to the production of the flexible brake pads he had invented years earlier in Italy to supply his main customer: the FIAT Group, which was building the SEAT plant in Spain. This was the birth of GALFER, which produced the pads for the disc brakes of the SEAT 124 in the 50s and 60s. In the motorbike, scooter and bicycle sector, the activity focused on the production of brake calipers and clutch discs for original equipment, including Mototrans (Ducati) and Motovespa.
In the early years of its existence, the brand continued to supply products for the automotive industry and also began manufacturing high-performance brake pads (Cobalt, HP6) and the first disc brake pads for the Seat 124. In the 1970s, the second generation of the Milesi family took over the management of the company, focusing increasingly on the motorbike and bicycle sector. In the 80s the involvement in motor sports begins and GALFER develops the first brake pad and disc brake system for a trial motorbike. The period of intensive cooperation culminated in the first world championship title for GALFER, won by Alex Crivillé in 1989 in the 125cc class, and many more titles in different classes were to follow.
Today GALFER is based in Granollers (Barcelona), in a new 6,000 square metre factory in the immediate vicinity of the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya, where the company manufactures brake products (discs, pads and hoses) with around 150 employees. The top Spanish brand exports to more than 50 countries around the globe, making it a global leader. Throughout its 70-year history, innovation has been the company's driving force. This spirit of continuous improvement has made the company a major supplier of braking systems to a demanding market and a leader in the sector.
