GALFER - from Italy to Spain
In November 1952, Maffio Milesi (the father of Umberto, the current Managing Director) decided to open an industrial warehouse in Barcelona dedicated to the manufacture of the flexible Brake Pads he had invented years earlier in Italy to supply his main customer: the FIAT Group, which was building the SEAT plant in Spain. This was the birth of GALFER, which produced the pads for the SEAT 124's Disc Brakes in the 50s and 60s. In the motorbike, scooter and bicycle sector, activities focused on the manufacture of Brake Calipers and clutch discs for original equipment, including for Mototrans (Ducati) and Motovespa.
In the early years of its existence, the brand continued to supply products for the automotive industry and also began manufacturing high-performance brake pads (Cobalt, HP6) and the first disc brake pads for the Seat 124. In the 1970s, the second generation of the Milesi family took over the management of the company and focused increasingly on the motorbike and bicycle sector. In the 1980s, the company's involvement in motorsport begins and GALFER develops the first Brake Pads and disc brake system for a trial motorbike. The period of intensive co-operation culminated in the first world championship title for GALFER, won by Alex Crivillé in the 125cc class in 1989. Many more titles in various classes were to follow.
Today, GALFER is based in Granollers (Barcelona), in a new 6,000 square metre plant in the immediate vicinity of the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya race track, where the company manufactures brake products (Washers, pads and Inner Tubes) with around 150 employees. The top Spanish brand exports to more than 50 countries around the world, making it a global leader. Throughout its 70-year history, innovation has always been the driving force behind the company. This spirit of continuous improvement has made the company an important supplier of braking systems for a demanding market and a leader in the sector.
