Winter tyres for Vespa and Lambretta - at SIP Scootershop

Created by Dietrich Limper at 11:06 on December 9, 2024

Even in the cold season, Vespa and Lambretta remain popular means of transport. For safe riding on snow, ice and slush, SIP Scootershop offers a wide selection of winter tyres from manufacturers such as HEIDENAU, KENDA and IRC. These tyres, specially developed for scooters, impress with their high traction, safe lateral guidance and effective water displacement. All important information and advantages can be found here.

Why winter tyres are the best choice for scooters

Winter tyres are specially developed to ensure maximum safety in low temperatures and wintry road conditions. A soft rubber compound remains flexible even in freezing conditions, while a deep, sipe-rich tread pattern efficiently displaces snow, slush and water. Many models bear the M+S or snowflake symbol, which confirms their suitability for winter conditions.

Important properties of winter tyres

  • Rubber compound: Guiding and flexible for optimum grip in cold conditions.

  • Tread pattern: Deep grooves and sipes provide stability on snow and ice.

  • Labelling: M+S symbol or snowflake guarantee winter suitability.

The advantages of winter tyres

  • More safety: Improved grip and cornering stability on winter roads, especially with the rather small tyres for scooters.

  • Legal requirements: no longer mandatory, but recommended

  • Robustness: Developed for use in demanding winter conditions.

Tyre sizes and Wheel Assembly

The correct tyre size is stated in the vehicle documents. Alternatively, the information can be read directly on the tyre sidewall. SIP Scootershop also offers pre-assembled Wheel Assemblywhich make changing tyres particularly easy. These Tyres are ready to ride straight away and are ideal as a winter tyre set or spare wheel.

Tyre fitting service: Some customers want to combine other tyres and rims in addition to our Wheel Assembly. We are happy to do this work, provided that the combinations fit together.

Note: SIP has favourable prices for all vehicles Rims. It is best to fit a set of winter or all-weather tyres on rims, then you can change them quickly and easily if the weather is suitable. You don't have to get your fingers dirty unnecessarily or visit a garage to fit the tyres.

Which winter tyre manufacturers are there?

Winter tyres for scooters are a niche in the world of scooter tyres. Only a few manufacturers produce them in small series.

HEIDENAU

Made in Germany is the name of the game at Reifenwerke HEIDENAU! In Saxony, they also know a thing or two about snow. HEIDENAU Snowtex tyres are available with different tread patterns. Perfect for cold days.

IRC

With the Urban Snow, IRC was one of the first tyre manufacturers for winter tyres worldwide. The IRC tyres with their special sipe technology are convincing and are our absolute recommendation for winter.

KENDA

The K701 and K303 are affordable winter tyres that ensure reliable water displacement with their special sipe tread pattern. The Guiding rubber compound stands for perfect grip and gives the tyres optimum driving characteristics in frosty temperatures and conditions.

What does the labelling on winter tyres mean?

Example: 3.50-10 59J (according to inch designation)

3.50 Tyre width in inches (1 inch = 25.4 mm)
10 Rim diameter in inches
59 Load capacity index
J Speed index

Example: 90'90-10 59J (according to current designation)

90 Tyre width in millimetres
90 Percentage ratio of tyre width to cross-section
10rim diameter in inches
59 Load index
J Speed index

What do the additional details on the sidewalls of the winter tyres mean?

Dot number: The last four digits indicate the production date. For example, 4503 means the 45th week in2003
TL:
Tubeless indicates the use without Inner Tube. However, this type of tyre can be ridden with an Inner Tube without any problems.
TT: This refers specifically to the use of an Inner Tube!
R, rf, XL or extra load: Reinforced refers to tyres with reinforced carcasses and therefore increased load capacity.

What does the load and speed index mean?

The load index (also load index, load index or LI value) indicates the maximum load a tyre can carry. The speed index (also speed index, speed category, speed class, SI value or GSY) indicates the maximum permissible speed of a tyre. The load and speed index can be found on the side of the tyre.
