Sometimes custom projects come from the gut - a scooter, a Paint, a few ideas, and in the end you realise that not everything fits together. Not so with David from Nuremberg from Zennteifel-Rollerclub Langenzenn. When he bought his 1982 PX80 four years ago, he had a clear goal: an uncompromising custom scooter, planned from the ground up and perfectly realised. The result is the "Mazda 787B" - a Vespa that impresses at first sight.
A tribute to the Le Mans winner
The eye-catching design is based on the Mazda 787B, the legendary Le Mans winner from 1991, the first Japanese overall winner and the last with a Wankel engine before this technology was banned. David was fascinated by the underdog story of this team - hardly anyone had them on their radar, and then they took the overall victory as a complete surprise. It was clear to him: no classic Martini or Gulf livery, but a unique tribute design for the Mazda 787B.
Under the Plates is a 221 MHR Engine with around 30 hp at the rear wheel - more than enough power for a scooter that is primarily a show bike. The conversion is as uncompromising as the look. David fitted a Lambretta Fork with Casa Performance Disc Brake at the front, a dropbar Handlebar and even engraved a Wankel logo on the Flywheel.
A declaration of love to motorsport
The "cockpit" is a particular highlight: inspired by the racing car, there are toggle switches with original labelling such as "Kill", "Start" and "Fuel". Even the typical yellow stickers and the retro-style labelling from the 80s are faithfully reproduced - just like in the real Le Mans racing car.
Jesco from SIP Scootershop is visibly enthusiastic in the interview: "An insanely cool scooter with so many details that you don't even know where to start."
With the "Mazda 787B", David has created a unique custom scooter that impresses not only visually, but also with its story and many details - a true declaration of love for motorsport.
