J. COSTA PRO Variators – High-end drive components with a redesigned structure, improved heat dissipation, and more direct responsiveness.

The J. COSTA PRO variators represent the latest evolution in high-end drive components. Compared to previous versions, the design of the PRO variators has been modified to achieve better heat dissipation and weight reduction. The holes in the running surface and beneath the slide pins are designed to provide even better responsiveness of the drive.

As with the EVO3 variators, the casings of the PRO variators are ceramic-coated to increase service life and minimize friction. The quality of all components has been improved, making the variators significantly more durable and requiring less maintenance.

Difference from Conventional Variators

In the J. COSTA Variomatic, the Variator Rolls have been replaced by sliding weights that move the Variator along linear raceways. This system is simple and highly effective. The linear raceways of the sliding weights are the key advantage of this variator system. Compared to the standard Variator, the J. COSTA offers, on the one hand, a shorter gear ratio in the lower RPM range for better acceleration and, on the other hand, a longer gear ratio when the sliding weights have reached their outermost point and the V-Belt Pulley is closed.

Conclusion: The already unique technology has been further refined and now delivers even more power across the entire RPM range.

Installation Note: To install the J.COSTA Variomatic, two ridges must be filed or milled away from the Crankcase or the Cover Plate of the Crankshaft. Otherwise, the Variomatic will rub against these ridges after installation and will not be able to rotate freely.
