A steering column developed for race use. Suitable for PIAGGIO ZIP SP, but also easily modifiable for use with Vespa Smallframe scooters and other models.

The POLINI Evolution steering column was initially developed to improve the performance and safety of scooters taking part in the POLINI Cup race series. The structural limits of the original steering column restrict effective improvement of the front suspensions performance. This was solved by developing a much stiffer and stronger steering column from a high-quality steel alloy, avoiding the aluminium construction of the original type completely.

The central section was designed on a computer, cast in a particularly exact process and then CNC machined on a quinaxial lathe. They are then powder coated to withstand corrosion and environmental influences. Their height can be adjusted using the shim-spacers included in the kit. Due to their steel construction they weigh 1.1 kilos more than the original PIAGGIO ZIP SP steering column. The mudguard fixing is attached with bolts, allowing adjustment in order to fit a wider variety of mudguards. To simplify the transfer of the original trailing-link suspension swing-arm to the POLINI steering column, we have also included a complete set of all the necessary pins, bearings and seals in the delivery. By modifying the steering assembly mounting the POLINI steering column can also be fitted to Vespa Smallframe models.
