Modern clutch designs for Lambretta models with chain drive.
The Clutch on many Lambretta engines quickly reaches its limits, especially in performance-tuned setups. Imprecise fits and basic materials in the inner and outer Clutch Baskets can lead to problems with disengagement and power transmission. If the original Clutch is simply upgraded with stronger Springs, the operating force often increases while the disengagement travel remains limited.
Complete clutch systems, therefore, address the entire design. More washers, differently designed springs and linings, as well as components with higher torsional rigidity, create additional reserves and enable more precise disengagement.
AF RAYSPEED
With the 6-Plate Road Clutch, AF RAYSPEED offers an interesting solution with a good price-performance ratio. The design is based on the Race version, but the Road version uses some cast components instead of those milled from solid stock.
The Clutch features a lightweight design and is engineered as a cassette system for easy installation. Six friction plates are compressed by five reinforced Springs. Each friction plate engages with the included Clutch Gear Cog via twelve tabs.
The package also includes a GP Pressure Plate with bearings and a matching Holding Tool. The Clutch is designed for DL/GP chain covers. AF RAYSPEED recommends it for setups ranging from the GP125 Engine to RB25 tuned engines.
CASA PERFORMANCE
The Power Master from CASA PERFORMANCE is one of the more sophisticated clutch solutions for Lambretta. A distinctive feature is the integrated shock absorber, which cushions load peaks during power transmission to the transmission.
The Power Master uses seven plates and twelve Springs. The Cover Plate is fitted, and the Pressure Plate acts on a mounted Pressure Plate.
Due to its greater overall height, either the CASA PERFORMANCE chain cover or a Spacer for the original chain cover is required.
In addition, there are two more compact versions designed for the original installation space:
- Power Master STD without additional shock absorption
- Smooth Master with six instead of seven linings and integrated shock absorption
Conclusion: Robust complete clutches with smooth operation, a clearly defined engagement point, and clean disengagement. This facilitates shifting and reduces stress on the transmission components.
